Looks great Jeff! The time and effort into a project like that is crazy. Are you going to be insulating the top for noise?

Might want to re-read the thread.

This is excellent fabrication work that can be returned to factory specs easily. IMO this is about as good as modifying can get, the owner is improving the car to suit his desires in a way that has no permanent modifications to the car.

It looks great Jeff!! Can't wait to see it out in the sun and some photo's taken with a better camera ;)

This really looks like a great project.

Jeff: can you take a few higher quality photos?? Maybe with some better lighting? Do you have a friend/family member who can take some good photos? I insist that you don't take offense!

    Jeff,
I am floored - this looks PHENOMENAL and I WANT ONE!!!!!

Really really, when you iron out the wrinkles with yours, are you going to have your mechanic make more of these, because I 100% would buy one. I always wanted to buy a 355B to go with my Spider, but this would solve my issue.

    I LOVE ISSUE!

^ sorry Dave and all, I've been bumped on the paintwork for my car. It is coming soon just a little longer... Believe me no one is more excited than I. I drove it, (weather is not too snowy up here this year) to the paint shop approx 2 weeks ago and could not believe how great the car was running, I was looking back at the sail panels in their exalted perfection. It was like a perpetual state of that christmas feeling. I have a specific paint guy in Anthony's shop and unfortunatley I have to wait. Updates as soon as I get her back.

Trust me, the work is better than good. Because this car was a little rough (a couple of dings) and my top on this car didn't work I took the plunge. I would not have attempted this project with my "perfect spider" but after it was finished I've decided to replace the rag top on my perfect car once the rag top inevitably breaks. It is that good.

I am so freakin excited to see this thing!!! However, if I might, I have a few questions, because I am not 100% clear:

    1) Do you have to remove the soft top to install the hard top, or can you leave the soft top in place?

    2) How does the hard top attach securely to the back?

    3) If the rear of the top rests on the paint, how will you avoid the damaging effects of the top rubbing on the paint?

Please do not take these questions with any sort of disrespect, but I am very curious, because I have fitted a few hard tops to other cars and these were important issues.

    Thanks,
    David

This is massively impressive work, but a hardtop that you have to remove the softtop to affix isn't very useful, IMO. Reinstalling any power convertible top involves not only getting the top mechanism back in place, but also several hours of adjusting the top motors and cables so that the top goes up and down straight and smooth and doesn't slam into the windshield header. It's painstaking work that is not suitable for anyone other than professional. As a result, a hardtop that fits over the existing top is MUCH more valuable.

Cant wait my self. Though my feeling is that this conversion will never go into any kind of production. I hope i am proved wrong but i cant see it.
Looking forward to the finished roof on this particular car though.

Guys,Guys,Guys, it's coming. The mold is done. It is going into production and I am still waiting for paint. I know it is late but it is coming and soon. My top is heavier than the production version and I want to test the one off the mold when I get the car from paint. The cap (inner) and top is from carbon fiber and so is the roof. The interior roof will be of molded carbon fiber as well. There will be custom interior options available as well. Just bare with me it will be worth it.

If you purchase one, you/your mechanic must remove the existing soft top mechanism.
It is engineered to be able to convert the car back to stock.
It uses your existing locking mechanism for the front lock down fastening which, once removed from your existing rag top (no damage) it bolts into your new roof.

If you look at the 430 16m cap when the roof is retracted, that is what the new cap looks like. It's killer... Other than paint the only thing left is to speed test the production version of the top. I need to make sure that an open window at 140mph isn't going to blow out a rear/side window. The only wind tunnel that I know of is the one owned by the NRC in Ottawa... Stay tuned... I'm close.
