Good news! The driver’s side lenses are almost ready! We have good samples coming out of the molds and they are consistent. I am very happy with the result so as early as next week is possible to turn out production units. An aircraft company makes them from optically clear polyurethane and the quality is excellent. The detail is very high with only the OEM and other proprietary information removed for legal reasons. They have good scratch resistance and are much stronger and lighter than the glass lens (630 grams). I am waiting for more pictures and the sample lens to get to my doorstep. Cost is going to be between $395.00 - $450.00 per lens as we are still waiting on a quote for a coating that produces additional hardening on the lens surface. The passenger side lenses will be ready in early January due to the holidays. I will have the driver’s lenses up for sale in a short time after a few tests. The cost to make the molds was high, but worth it seems. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I like it, I like IT Mikey!

So are those the covers, or are those the replacements? I'm guessing the replacements? And you are gonna have a how-to thread, no?

Those are the replacements. Polycarb covers are underway as well, figure early Feb. for those. I will have a how too, but the long and short of it is, if your lens is cracked or broken you need to unscrew the rear of the housing, take out the wires, reflectors etc., then break the glass and take out the pieces. The housing is double lipped and sealed and it is almost impossible to get the whole lens out without breaking the glass. After removing the glass by pulling them off the sealant, use a X-acto or scraper to remove the sealant in the housing channel. I will have a web site up soon for the lenses and a few other custom parts soon. I will put a how to there. Now, for those who have lenses in tact I suggest waiting for the covers. I do have a method for removing the whole lens unbroken like I did for the passenger side, but it involves modifying the inside of the light housing.

Nice job. Can't wait to see the end product. Of course, I can't see needing these anytime soon, but isn't that why they call them accidents?

Said the same thing about a month before the Foxwoods Rally. Came home from the rally and there it was, a long crack running up the center of the drivers side. What really pissed me off is that I had 40mil protective film on the light, but I caught the rock at the very edge of the glass. I have polycabonate lens covers in the works now that will snap over the OEM lights. They will be coming out very early next year. Might be good for those wanting to protect unbroken glass lenses.

Almost done! I will have prototypes for both sides very soon, I'll call and find out when. I have a drivers side pre-production part now, looks good. Price will be $790.00 per set ($395.00 each lens) now that I know what everything will cost me. Nice talking to you on the phone today. Here is a picture of the grilles I did while I am waiting for the lenes to come in. Turned out good I think.

O.K. just got off the phone with the company that is making the lenses for me. They will be starting the first run of lenses on 28th or 29th. I would like to give them an accurate count of how many to make. I will send out an email when they are ready to ship. Each lens takes 24 hours to cure properly so delivery will not be until the third week in February. That way I can get them in all at one time and ship them out all at once. Price will be $790.00 per set or ($395.00 each lens) + shipping via USPS Priority Mail ($15.00 in U.S., up to two lenses). I will not ask for payment until its time to ship so please be sure you want one or more before I put you on the list. PM me with your name and contact info and the side (drivers/passengers) or set (both) you will need. I will make the cut-off date for getting on the list or canceling for the first run January 26th. I will start a second run the first week in February if there is more interest. Please post questions you have so I can get them answered here on this thread.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I'm in two minds about whether or not I actually like it more than stock.

    All the best,

This is truly amazing. I wonder how many other unobtanium products the brothers can come up with replicating...

O.K. I have orders for six total lenes, 3 sets. Anyone else? They are starting the production run on the 28th and I need an acurate count if possible. I may do a couple piece over-run just to be sure. PM me with what you need and your contact info.

    Ernie,
let me know if that guy you told me about on the phone needs a set.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I have a set of production units in my hands! They look great! Remember I need to get the count for the first run by Friday at the latest. Price will be $790.00 per set or ($395.00 each lens) + shipping via USPS Priority Mail ($15.00 in U.S., up to two lenses). I will not ask for payment until its time to ship so please be sure you want one or more before I put you on the list. For more info see earlier posts or PM me.

I forgot to add, the manufacturer did a 15/16 steel ball drop from 10 feet to test these. The ball bounced off with no mark left behind.

    Congratulations!

Will it be possible to order a pair in the future?

I am a proud 348 owner and my lenses are still intact... If one day these lenses break, will it still be possible to order then, or do I have to order now?

    Best regards

    Carlos

You do not have to order now. I will probably do a second run for late orders and make a few extras just in case. I will be making polycarbonate lens covers next that fit over your OEM lights. You may want to get a pair of those when they come out.

Thanks PAP. It was out of necessity but I guess there is a need. They do the trick and it’s a good way to keep cost down.
