In Germany, my father-in-law belonged to a Mercedes club and they said that BMW does not stand for "Bayerische Motoren Werke". It stood for "Bei Mercedes Weggeworfen". Which translates directly to "By Mercedes thrownaway". Maybe you can stir the pot with the Euros in the crowd. Sorry to any Beamer (or is it Beymer...Beemer) owners in the crowd. Personally, I like the marque.
Just a little Mercedes owners humor.

Certainly a different crowd over there. There was a question on how to siphon out the gas tank on a car the owner was selling or getting rid of. LOL.

I dont see the point to any of this, beginning with telling them you own a Ferrari. I dont tell anyone anymore. With few exceptions, all it does is piss people off. Its like waving a red blanket in front of a Bull, it begs for an attack. It hits non owners right in their manhood, and they have nothing to counter with so they attack you on whatever level they can find.

Seriously, put one of these cars (a Ferrari) in your garage and you will find out real fast who your real friends and family are, and those who never were. And I wouldn't have traded that knowledge for anything in the world, in that regard alone it was the best money I ever spent.

On a serious note you are very very correct.

As I mentioned in another post, I benefited from a substantial win fall as a result of the Muscle Car boom a couple of years ago. I felt it ran it's race and cashed in with a 6 fold return on my investment. Never did I ever think I could own a Ferrari, let alone the one I ended up with.

Prior to that, I was very active within the muscle car fraternity, in fact I co-founded the Australian Muscle Car Club of New South Wales.

Within hours of selling my car and buying the 328, the slagging started. Initially as a joking gesture but you could see there was animosity under the surface.

I attended a couple of their events with the Ferrari and quite honestly I was treated like a leper and a turncoat. The "friends" that hung around me like a bad smell when rare original NOS parts were on offer deserted my like rats off a sinking ship.

One overheard me say that I downgraded to a Ferrari 328. That was because the Ferrari was $8,000 cheaper than what I sold my muscle car for. He thought I was taking the pi$$ out of the local cars which I actually wasn't. He had a few beers in him by this stage and went off like a firecracker.

Consider this.................I just had an IT guy leave after one of my daughters has connection issues with our wireless router.
I tried everything to no avail. Anyway he came in and did his magic and within minutes had it up and running. He logged on to the router via my laptop which has a full size photo of my 328 on my desktop. He looked at it for about 10 seconds before I said...... "My dream car," he replied buy saying....... "Yes isn't it for all of us." I asked about the bill and he said today was a freebie as he was only 3 minutes around the corner. I thanked him graciously but I could not help think had he of seen the Ferrari in the garage whether the call would have still been at no-charge?

Moral of the story is you can't win. They either think you are a tosser cause you own a Ferrari or they are green with envy.

As you said, I need to educate myself in keeping my mouth shut...........

    Bob.

My concern is that you will unleash a bunch of trolls onto this forum as a result of the other thread - we will see...

On the other hand, it was a funny read!

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. Bimmerforums is very useful in sorting out hard to solve annoying issues if you own a BMW - they helped me with at least three issues that drove me nuts.

What more trolls than we have now???

In any case on the serious side of things you are correct, but for those of you who know me you know I like my M3 just about as much as I like my Ferrari (well, not quite, but still really like it) and meant no ill will by commenting on parts prices in the thread over there.

The guy who flamed me was just being ******, and deserved what he got, and all the guys who went over there and posted did it with class and threw in a few zingers just to make a point that hey, we are car guys too and not just a bunch of rich arrogant arse holes.

In any case, like I mentioned to the guilty party over there, I don't hold grudges so no big deal. I think the OP should get the car checked out, and go buy it if he loves it.

I remember the first time I came home with my first M3. It was every bit as exciting at that point in my life as anything that had ever happened to me. Great car and I still love mine to this day.

I know, I shouldn't have mentioned it at all, but I didn't think it would offend so quickly. I have to move my BMW out of sight before anyone comes to work on anything at the house or our rates go up, God knows what would happen if they saw the Ferrari.

It was hilarious how many fchatters joined up and posted. I couldn't resist joining the fun. They must think I'm a troll since I mentioned that I have TWO Ferraris. (And 2 beemers!)

Definitely true. I've had neighbors that were real car fans. As soon as I pull up in the Ferrari, they all took notice, closed their doors, and never asked me about the car again. I know they're dying to get a ride, which I've offered, but they never took me up on it.

Real friends are hard to find these days...

Anyone with a modicum of class or humility would not take such an introduction as a hit in their manhood; instead, they might find humor in the situation (as intended), maybe inspiration, or even a potential car buddy or mentor. If someone takes something like that as an attack, they are probably just a brooding, miserable, angst-ridden person who is going to be negative or jealous about many things. I want to help people like that to make them happier, but if I can't, then I want nothing to do with them and just stay away and associate with more positive people.

Absolutely! I sure found out who my real friends were after buying my 308. Especially when my wife and I ran into some difficult financial times. The handful of Esprits didn't have the same effect (jealousy) that that yellow badge with the black horsey have, regardless of price tag. I'm still dumbstruck at the power that such an object can have over some people.

It's as if the heavens part allowing twee angelic voices to reach crescendos hitherto unheard whilst describing the indescribable silver linings of clouds parteth and that most magical of golden twi-twi-twilights which beams upon us, even as the Archangel Michael himself delivereth an epiphany he readest from the Holiest of Holy scrolls, "Go, ye, therefore, in great multitudes of chariots and slay the dragons in strange and faraway lands." And when upon trembling lips you ask, "Like . . . now?" The Field Commander of The Army of God, in a voice not unlike that of 10,000 trumpets, commandeth thee, "I mean, like, NOW. Dude. Laterz."

It's subtle, but I've noticed people's nose rise about 1/2" and their voice change slightly when they make reference to my 308. As in "oh, you mean the FERRARI in the garage?" I hate to tell you people that my 308 cost much less than your Toyota Highlander.

I just noticed TurboQV called his BMWs "Beemers"

That should pretty well start a war.

Beemers are bikes, Bimmers are cars. I give it one post, two tops, before someone jumps on him for that. :)
