very cool pic on the a-bahn Looks a bit trafficy though. I made some high speed road trips in Germany from 2002-2005 in various rental cars (usually when the company was paying for fuel!). Once made the Goerlitz to Muenchen trip in a brand new Alfa 156 2L averaging 145kph for 5 hours (1 stop for gas, max speed 240). My average from Goerlitz to the 'Ring in an Opel Speedster over 750 km was usually around 125 due to slower zones. Goelitz to Dresden was a great, high speed 100km run at 160+ just about all the time. How fast were the 308's cruising? Here in the states we are limited to about 125kph without too much fear of police, and honestly I think my '85 GTS would still be comfortable at about 175 max. My 1999 BMW 528 sport on the other hand was made to happily cruise all day at 200+ prost!
Hi, on the part of the AUTOBAHN A 46 where the photo was taken there is a speed limt of 120 km/h ( apprrox. 75 mph ). Later on the A 45 ( SAUERLANDLINIE ) we reached 240 km/h ( approx. 150 mph ). For top speed freaks I recommend to visit the A 31 between BOTTROP ( BRABUS is located there ! ) and GRONAU at an early Sunday morning: We saw - 293 km/h ( 183 mph ) in a PORSCHE 993 Turbo, - 270 km/h ( 169 mph ) in a 993 RS and - 315 km/h ( 197 mph ) in an early Testarossa. Knowing that speedometres are always lying, it was really fast at all. And - remember: High speed driving is allways dangerous. There may be slow traffic on the road or even some deeres... :O that is crazy fast Very good point about the (should be obvious) dangers of high speed driving. A good friend of mine was driving at about 160kph in his Citroen, and as he was overtaking a truck (limited by law to 100kph) a small car hidden in front of the truck, going only a few km over 100, decided to move to the left lane directly in front of his Citroen. Instead of hitting the car my friend swerved to the left, hit the center rail, went over it and tumbled OVER the opposite a-bahn lane and down into a field. He would have been ok, but sliding through the field he was incredibly unlucky to meet an old stone post/marker, which hit his car just on the driver's side door. The result looked like a shark took a bite out of his hip. His left leg really should have been amputated. Even after several experimental operations by Germany's best surgeons to replace the 7cm of missing main control nerve, 5 years later he still does not have control of his left ankle/foot and does daily physical therapy. Have fun, but most of all be careful out there....
