Forbes actually passed away before the car was built. Never took delivery of it. It was painted the Forbes green color.

On the bright sided if it's totaled he will probably get more money than at auction anyway. Sad to see it happen to any car though.

I got lucky, my Mercedes 3.5 Cabriolet managed unscathed... Tent went right over without touching. I pulled the car out of the auction anyway and can be seen today along with about 25 or 30 other classic Mercedes at my open house at 1 pm.

An all original 330 went across the block earlier. Drew talked about how he had restored 5-6 in the past. A 575 Superamerica was a no-sale today.

Very nice. I tried to offer a bit of consolation, but you chose to act like an jerk. I know it must be tough for you. That was an interesting car, with an interesting history.

Is that just your defense mechanism, due to your business practices speaking? Or are you just feeling the effects of bad karma?

Relax, gentlemen. This is a perfect example of how the lack of intonation in printed discussion can lead to misunderstandings. Jason, unless there's some kind of history between the two of you that I'm not aware of, I don't think the original post in this exchange was intended sarcastically. We're all on the same side here and everyone feels horrible about what happened to your car.

    Ok, let's move on...

That 330GTC is a unbelievable original car Arizona car from original owner with all tools, papers, etc. Very hard to find something like that. One of the best preserved I have ever seen. All I can say is it was exciting yesterday :)

Wow, they auctioned them even with the damage?

    That's odd.......but okay, I suppose.

The majority of cars I saw had no damage. I did also see some with severe damage but those were not being auctioned that I am aware of. Still plenty of nice cars and great atmosphere yesterday.

Well.....I didn't wish this on them, but I was a little P.O.'d with Russo and Steele
    when I went there.

I showed up at 4:00 because their viewing time ran till 5:00. When I tried to get
in they refused me entry saying they didn't accept new people anymore since they
close at 5:00. It really buggered things for me.

They would also do well to list on their website ALL of the vehicles they have for
auction. They didn't list one I saw there and that made a big difference for me.

    So far....not so good.

I read Ingenere's post as if it were a WWII British documentary (perhaps there was too much Monty Python in my youth):

    1) Hi ol' boy, how's the war going.
    2) Made good progress in Africa, until I stepped in on a land mine. Now with this gammy leg I can only work a desk job.
    1) Tough luck ol' boy, still, got Rommel on the run, eh?
    2) Yeah, the unit's still giving him hell.

I'm very sure (based on the follow ups) that that is how it was intended (rather than "tough s---", which is how it got perceived.)

    Jason,

I'm believe I can speak for all of us that we are very unhappy about what happened to your car, and wish you the best in getting it back to the wonderful shape it was in. I certainly appreciated you bringing out to the Cars and Coffee event in the past, and wish you all the best.

    Hope this explanation helps.

    -Dave
