Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP boss is worried his prize asset will be lured into Formula One by Ferrari.

Rossi currently rides for Yamaha, although reports claim the 30-year-old Italian will switch to Ducati for the 2011 MotoGP season. But Yamaha team manager Davide Brivio claims a Ferrari switch would be of more interest to Rossi.

“The greatest danger is Ferrari," Brivio told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
Rossi impressed with his pace in an extensive two-day test for Ferrari at Barcelona last week, and Brivio believes his excellent lap times wouldn’t have gone unnoticed within the walls of Maranello.

“I have to be worried about these excellent times because Valentino really could get the desire to change sport," said Brivio.

Rossi himself has played down a switch to Formula One, claiming a switch to rallying is of more interest to him. But Rossi could be tempted if Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo’s plans to run a third Ferrari car in 2011 come to fruition.

No one wants him in an F-1 car... it's just being done for the constant publicity for the las 6 years or so...

There are many more younger drivers that will be able to do a better job for less $$$ out there.

Your right, I forgot, F-1 is still a "buy a ride" series...

USF1 just proved that to the world.

But: Isn't any series a "buy a ride" series?

I don't know too much about other racing series, but have the nagging feeling that a big bank account buys access to any other series. I know this is certainly true for the highly appraised Le Mans racing as well as e.g. the Dakar. It is certainly true for all lesser series (Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic etc). Dunno about NASCAR, DTM, IRL, WRC etc though, but would think it is similar.

Lauda started his career as a pay driver, as have others....rossi will generate interest but I doubt he'll get a competitive ride.
