I have not owned a Ferrari before but am considering purchasing one that has been sitting for several months. It is a confiscated vehicle and there are not any remotes with the car only
one key. The car will turn over but will not start. Is there a chance that the vehicle alarm system is preventing firing? Vehicle has fuel but I have not inspected to determine if fuel pump is functioning properly. I would welcome experienced council on this matter from those more familiar. Thanks, Dan.

You need the fob to disable the alarm so car will start.
If the car you are considering is the one in Nashville, TN (2001 Spider)
it is an European model without the title.
Make sure the price is right otherwise you may end up spending some $$$ to get her up and running.

you can get it to start with just a key if you have the pin code for it...takes practice getting the procedure down though...it's an art:)

Given that the car is confiscated, this may be a long long shot, but if the glove box or the bonnet happens to contain the owner's pouch with the original letter from Ferrari containing the PIN code, then it is possible to start the car with just the key and the pin. This would not be the way you'd want to start the car on a regular basis since it is very tedious to turn the key in sequence to match the digits on the pin code, but it would help you prove that the car starts the first time. Might want to make the seller siphon out the old gas and put in a fresh batch before the first start.

There are other posts in the archives about trying to get a new set of fobs from Ferrari after submitting proof of title, I don't recall if it requires that you also get a new ECU. So if you decide to buy the car there may be some non-trivial expense involved.
