bypassing the system is most likely going to be tricky. the DME or ECU is coded to the EWS version of the applicable yr. in 93~94 EWS II added further levels of safety. with out the synchronization of the system the car will not start due to one of two cut-offs, fuel or spark.

Also there is a finite number of re-keys or added replacements although activating and deactivating a particular key has no limit as well as the ISN or resynchronizing or reprogramming the system with a new alarm system.

I'm not sure how one would do a complete workaround of the EWS since the ISN or the rolling code is permanent to the ECU as part of the programing. in 1999 the EWS III D moved to having the ECU 'burn' into it's memory the ISN from the EWS module and is thus 'married' to the VIN and would require a completely new ECU that is not yet programmed but has the requisite VIN from the factory.

the integration of chassis to engine and alarm computers has added another level of complexity. not saying it's not possible but it won't be simple because the system is deigned to avoid exactly what you're asking it to do. the European insurance commission mandated a drive away protection system to combat the high level of theft. thus we now have EWS and it's many versions.

I know that for other MFG's they re-program or use aftermarket ECU's DME's that do not have the ISN coding to bypass the system. or you buy the D.E.I unit but it only acts as in interface to aftermarket alarms. I don't know of any Ferrari ECU programming.

I was reported some time ago that on the 360 the alarm ECU imprints on one of the ECU's (i'll call that the master and the other the slave. That renders the master ECU useless with any other alarmed 360 except if used as the slave ECU. If this is true. Did this happen after a certain year with Ferrari production or is this a 360 only deal? Is there a way that once burned master ECU's can be "fixed" so that they can be used as a master ECU again?

 

I'll gladly accept correction if I'm wrong. single word replies are only automatic gainsays and field no further information other than to take up an oppositional stance. you're welcome to expand upon it.

the EWS information I posted is not fabricated from hearsay or word of mouth. I'm simply sharing factual information on the European Insurance Commissions mandates for alarm systems and what is being done.

I have a working knowledge on the system in use by Ferrari and what works and what doesn't, however this in reference to parts replacement and the use of diagnostic equipment. yes as I'm sure you know there are some interesting things about the alarm interlock, however I'm not going to post such information in an open public forum.

Even still that knowledge is only in reference to getting the system working as intended by the factory. For now I'm not aware of anyway to completely bypass the alarm system in such a way that it no longer operates on the car and thus allowing one to have an alarm free car. that was the pretense I was posting on.

Here is my distorted thinking. The once burned master think sounds like rubbish to me because if it where true then you would not be able to put in new alarm kits because a new alarm accepts then new pin once unlocked with the old pin. So... If the slave ECU has never been imprinted then it looks to the alarm ECU when it is used as the master but there is no alarm kit/alarm ecu to talk to the ECU will the car start?

To me this would be very convenient and stupid cheap way for ferrari to do challenge cars because they are too cheap to make a separate alarm system for challenge cars. 360 Challenge cars and above don't use key fobs do they?

 

BBA Reman and Specialized ECU Repair both reprogram Motronic ECUs to eliminate the immobilizer.

The code burned into the 360 7.3 Motronic and similar Bosch systems are resetable. Bosch provides that ability to Mercedes at the dealer level but has never provided Ferrari with the ability. It speaks to the 2 companies relationship. The coding however does not prevent the master unit being used on the other bank. The architecture is the same Bosch wide, they did not reinvent the wheel for Ferrari. Ferrari as a client is just not that important to them so Ferrari needs always fall within existing Bosch engineering or they just do not get addressed.

Update: San Diego Ferrari reports that my alarm pin and fobs are in, and the car will be ready today. I will post the costs when I pick up the car.

 

And the cost was?

 

Cost of Alarm Pin: 501.35
Cost of 3 Fob Set: 544.17
Labor: 145.00

Total Cost without tax Including Pin, Fobs and Programming: $1,190.52 (I can't tell what they charged tax on since I had other things done, but my guess it at least on the Fobs)

 

Mark- Better than the $2000+ for a new ECU, fobs, PIN and installation.

I still think FNA is ripping off customers charging for a PIN, but there is nothing we can do about it.

not bad comparing to the 2k the told me over the phone, I have a local high end dealer giving it a shoot to see if they can program mine without having to replace the alarm, if it doesn't work then I guess that will be my only route, keeping my fingers cross.

 

My 99 355 came with a master and only one slave. The slave fob is not working and I would like to reprogam the fob to use as my main unit. Would the procedure work with only the one slave fob or am I forced to use the master and hope to never loose it?

 

Aldo- Hoping for a different answer? Did you change the battery in the black fob? You cannot reprogram fobs. You can, however, have your operating red fob cloned as many times as you want.

So what you are telling me is my red fob will clone the single black fob?

 

Aldo- No.Someone can take your red fob and clone the information from its PROM into the PROM in your black fob. Do a search here for clone and the large thread in the list will explain the procedure to you and let you know who is performing cloning. If I were you, I would buy another black fob and have two cloned. Eric355 is the only person I know who is currently cloning, and he lives in the south of France.
