and until eternity
512 tr, well atleast it has the happy ending of knowing the car landed in a good home. Spang, Unfortunately I keep each car when I get that phone call and never sell any of them. :-( I ran out of room many cars ago and my solution keeps being to move into a bigger space. Thanks John
I used to have the same issue, but when I paired the fleet down the 308 was the one I just couldn't part with. It just feels so right and has been so damn reliable and easy to service. Plus mine is a black QV GTB. I could never find another if I sold it and it looks like a bikini model. Spang
Well, NO you're wrong. the 308 will probably have cost MORE in the long run. Let's see, I bought the car with 14,000 miles. Paid $4,000 for the 15,000 mile service, and then what $5,000 for the 30,000 service. That's would be $9,000 in 16,000 miles. Crazy! There is NO way the 370Z will have that amount in maintenance issues. I should be able to drive it many more thousand miles with little or no maintenance costs. Yes, it will loose some in depreciation, but I'm sure it will come out as a MUCH better value. AND....now that I have owned the Z and driven it for a while, it makes the Ferrari seem like a joke! It's Faster, better handling, better fuel economy, more dependable etc., than the 308. It's totally awesome! I love it!!!! Yes, I know the 308 25 years old, but I did buy the car for performance driving So, sorry to say guys, the 308 is not a classic anymore, it's an ANTIQUE!!! I'm so glad to have gotten rid of it at this point. With so much competition from new car designs, I now realize that Fcars are really just a status symbol at this time.
For ******* ' s sake a month has gone by. Why back trolling here again? Aren't there any 350/370 forums?
It would probably also make a 250 GT SWB or Daytona feel like a joke, because those are real antiques. The owners of those cars have different priorities. Having "got rid of" my 328 last year (), and having a daily driver (Audi TT) that goes faster, stops better, etc., I'd still say you can't buy the style and character of a 308/328 in anything made today. In fact I sold my 328 to go more vintage, because I have gotten bored with modern cars, despite their virtues. If you like the 370Z better, that's great -- good luck with it. Like my Audi, it's probably reliable, gets decent fuel economy, has modern brakes, makes decent power and has a good dealer network. And if you're out to beat people on the track, the 308 is a poor choice (as are a Boxer, 246 GTS, Daytona, etc.) It's always best to have whatever is newest. Any new Japanese car is going to be cheaper to run and probably more reliable than an older Italian car. It's just a law of the universe. For me, personally, though, there is just absolutely no way I'd trade a nice 308 for a new 370Z. But for me it's not about the money. And this is coming from a guy who longer owns a 308/328. Ferraris aren't for everyone, but fast forward 5-7 years when the 370Z is a used Nissan, the 390Z is the hot car, and ... the 308/328 is still a classic. Park a 308 in a row of new Nissans, Toyotas, BMWs and Fords and you can tell it's the only one that will matter in the long term. (You might ask the mods to change your username to "Nissan_rich".)
Yes there is a 370Z forum with MUCH nicer people who don't have the types of attitudes like SOME on this site What, am I not entitled to an opinion if it doesn't kiss Fcar owners asses? "Too many self indulgent weiners": Nicolas Cage - Gone in 60 Seconds
Sorry, but this kind of immature stuff really does give validity to the snobbish attitude shared by many Ferrai owners. You're reputations are not thought of too highly outside the Fcar community, only amoungst yourselves! So, goodbye! Glad I'm not part of this club anymore
It is funny you would quote that because he is making fun of the commonness of new Ferrari, not the classics. He might say the same thing about a new Z. Just kidding, Dave
Easy, I think mostly people on this board just like to give each other hell. It is nothing personal, you should hear what some say about our Mondial. Anyway, I liked the way you started the thread and I am sorry it went down this path. You were a Ferrari owner and an enthusiast so you will always be part of the club. dave
Bingo. Unless his ownership experience was really bad or there was some big, big problem that was going to cost major $$ to fix, I cannot imagine this decision will stand the test of time. I predict some major buyers remorse.
Well you can get a used 350Z for $15k or less all day these days. New they were went for about $30k. $15k>$9k and that is not even taking account the amount you save by handling these services yourself and any future potential for appreciation on the F-car. Since it appears that you still enjoy trolling the site you should bring this thread back in a couple years when it is time for you to sell the 370Z, or even worse trade in the 370Z which you have penchant for doing, and let us know what you got for the car and see what 308 QVs are going for. This all belies the point though. It sounds like you purchased the QV for all the wrong reasons in the first place. You cannot buy a 20 something year old car and expect it to outperform today's machinery. This has been gone over here ad nauseum. You still can purchase a 308 for it's performance virtues, just as long as you are comparing it to cars of the same vintage though. The 308s contemporaries at the time were 911SCs and Carreras, Lotus Esprits. The Japenesse contemparies were Datsun 240s or Nissan 280s, and Mazda RX7s, and it more than holds it's own against these cars. If your logic holds true why don't you go over to your Nissan board and start a thread about how you are disappointed that a Nissan 280 is so thoroughly trounced in performance virtues by a 370? If all you want to do is gloat about the performance of your 370Z why not start a thread here, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58, and discuss how awesome your 370 is compared to a 430?
Rich I'm sure your sad to see the 308 QV go but you have chosen a very capable and reliable car in the 370Z. Best of luck brotha and stay safe. tex
bingo. why by a 25 year old ANYTHING, car, or whatever, and even try to compare it to something modern. i buy and have several "old school" cars, because i can. i could care less how nice a 350z is or drives. and by the way, i am still driving my 2002 Nissan Desert Runner i bought new. it now has almost 60,000 miles on it, because it stays parked unless i am at work. i drive my other metal the rest of the time, weather permitting. there is nothing wrong with enjoying a 350z, or any modern car. some of us buy these old slow cars BECAUSE WE CAN. and because we want them. its nothing to do with snobbery. there is an old MR@2i have seen sitting for some time i am probably going to adopt soon, because i had 3 of them when they were new, and i was young. i know they are fun little cars, now they are dirt cheap, fun little cars. so its about the passion. not the money, not the performance, or lack of. enjoy the 350z, sorry you have chosen to leave on a sour note.
A Ferrari is not for everyone and the OP feels like he made the right decision for him. All good. I will say this though. I've never driven a 370 or a 350 but I've never driven any Japanese product that felt like anything other than generic.
I find the vast majority of folks on this site to be very nice and are so willing to help. I've also found that virtually every F-car owner I've met in person through shows or drives has been very pleasant and friendly. That being said, this is a Ferrari enthusiasts site, so, while debating the "shortfalls" of any particualr model is trypically met with an open mind, any true "bad-mouthing" of the same will often raise ire :-o Ferraris are amazing cars but they are still cars...well...that and works of art, and, because they are a product of technology, for the older cars, technology has passed them by. Trying to compare a 308 to a modern sportscar is roughly akin to attempting to compare a P-51 Mustang to an F-18. BUT...there are those who love flying the P-51s because they speak of a bygone era and that there is something "earthy" about their performance charactaristics. However, I can certainly see why someone would want to fly an F-18! For me, in truth, it's $ that holds me back form having a newer model F-car; the 328 is beautiful and fun to drive and "ticks most all the boxes" but...alas...could use a little more oomph. Also, paracticality and F-car really don't belong in the same sentence; 370Z and practicality certainly do, and I understand where you're coming from pursuant to this and other matters automotive. So best of luck but... as Sean Connery learned from his James Bond experience..."Never say never" ;-) Scott
Not sure why you would bash a car you owned and hopfully enjoyed somewhat. Regardless, good luck with the Z, but if total performance is what you want you probably would do better with a 2 Y/O corvette as it will obliterate a Z for the same money, possibly less. I love older classic sports cars. I like the looks of non-computer generated designs, great smelling interior, exhaust note and more driver involment. I never thought they would outperform a modern sports car, otherwise I would buy a new Z06.
for what seemed to be a very positive first post in this thread by the OP, he has sure gotten turned off on the whole 308/Fcar thing. in fact, it seemed like he knew he was trading down by going to a 370, but that his needs had changed and he wanted something else. maybe some of the comments that followed were taken a bit personally by the OP for what he thought was a sincere thank you and (perhaps temporary) goodbye to the Fcar world. john
Done the work on mine myself with the help of people on this forum. Had nothing but reassurance and assistance from everyone. AND mine was a basket case. Never had one snobbish comment of snide remark from anyone. Just lots of help and people behind me saving a classic. Mine is an 85 308 QV. Rich sorry if you had a bad experience but me personally I HATE anything that you can put a fart can on to get attention. I will keep my antique classic thank you very much. Most of us purchased them because we love the lines and lineage. Yes a Toyota Camry can take them until about 90 but anyone can own a Nissan or Camry. I waited 25 years to get mine. My daily driver is a 2001 Jeep and my other one is a 2007 F-150. Im a blue color guy living his dream. Most of us dont look down our noses at anyone. We just appreciate and understand what we have and help each other as much as we can.
I agree. No need for beating him up here. Enjoy the Z Rich. On a Ferrari site you clearly know you were going to be beaten up... In any case, that being said, I think you will miss the 308 but it sounds like you are really into performance as you mentioned it in this thread many times. If that is the case you are making the right move. The 308 is not about performance it is something very different. Best of luck and like some others have said, it is likely we will see you again at some point. MB
What brought this back? Am I misreading, or is this thread (and the related Z trade) from three+ years ago?
