My 575M sounds great with a factory HGTC exhaust, but those Capristos on your 355s make an awesome shriek. Taz Terry Phillips
Do you really want it to be unbearable all the time? Like at idle? And cruising down the highway? The level 1 is awesome - aggressive at idle and part throttle, then banshee wail on the gas. But, you gotta go with what you like! And no O2 sensor issues.
Where I live there are no restrictions of any kind. I don't mind the noise, in fact, I love it, since I can't afford the 2010 Alonzo F1 race car. Would the level 3 at idle be really louder than the level one? Even at idle? This is important to me because that will determine which way I go. If level 3 is too loud even at idle, then I have no choice but to go with L1. Can anyone here confirm the noise level at idle with L3? Thanks.
Take the middle road and go with a level 2. It's aggressive but not offensive. I have level 2 Cappy with hyperflows so I'm biased.
About a year ago I put on Hyperflow cats and Bosch sensors with my Stage 3. It is loud, but not ridiculous. It is fine at idle and I have no problem carrying on a conversation. I think if you enjoy long trips with the wife/girlfriend, then it may be too loud. If you mainly drive by yourself and love the sound, go for it. Nothing better than hitting the gas at about 5k rpms and watching all the jaws drop.....
I had straight pipes /no cats and a mille miglia on my 355gts and the sound was brilliant used to spit flames when heavy driving.
Do some searches, there are other threads on the Cappy levels. Most everyone says the level 3 is really, really loud. And all of the difference in sound is when the bypass is closed, so idle and off throttle, when the sound may not be at its best. That video is a decat level 1, which is exactly what I have. When the bypass is open, you can hear mine for miles. Like slap-the-steering-wheel-laughing-till-you-cry loud. But my wife can take trips with the 1, so for you I would say get the 2. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Ive heard the level 3 on a couple cars. With cats/test pipes its almost obnoxious loud and sounds a bit brash. Closed valve its not horrible. Ive also heard the MSR and Kreissieg, they are the tops for me. You can get them fairly loud, but the sound is so refined its impossible to beat.
+1. I have heard a 355B with cats and level 2 and when it passed me it was ear splitting...seriously (like shatter windows loud!). Personally I think the level 1 would be perfect for me....not too loud when loafing around but plenty loud when you get on it.
I recently bought the Quicksilver SuperSport muffler but ended taking a huge hit on reshipping it back when I heard through the grapevine that the Cap 3 is the only exhaust that eliminates the bypass valves completely. Which is the culprit in the problems associated with the factory exhaust. I'm sure this has been debated but after I just purchased my new Fabspeed headers & a pair of test pipes I'm really not trying to have to replace these anytime in the near or far future if at all possible. I'm in the process of saving for my Cap 3 now.
It is a "supersports" system. I inquired with Quicksilver and they said they can also build a "supersports plus" version which is supposed to be quite a bit louder. I like the sound of Capristo/Kreissig but have a hard time dropping that kind of coin on an exhaust system. If I'm unhappy with the sound after I get a few miles on my car I'll probably either modify the quicksilver or build something from scratch before I drop the coin on something expensive.
I have the SuperSports myself and love it. It's loud, obnoxious, and scream at 8500RPM! I didn't see myself shelling out $4k+ for an exhaust, either. I'm happy with my QS.
This is the best sounding 355 EVER. Can anyone tell by the sound what exhaust system this 355 has? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a52-HA4YdT8
I agree... HyperFlow with Level 1, which I have on mine, is plenty loud. I actually removed the Tubi - supposedly about equivalent to Capristo Level 2 - that came with the car because it was a bit overwhelming.
