I am looking for a shop that has Ferrari experience that uses the Hunter machine. Anyone know of a shop that they can recommend and have any experience with in the Vegas area? I emailed the Service Manager at Penkske Wynn, Mr Kansky and have not heard back. I have an all new suspension and need an alignment!

    Thanks guys

    Paul

If you have an all new suspension, you need to start* with a ride height adjustment and corner weighting, at this point the car will be ready for an alignment. (*)actualy, you start by getting the caster correct, then the alignment in the ball park, then ride height, corner weighted, then fine alignment, then go back and check caster, ride heights, and corner weights.

Alignment is just making the wheels point in the right directions.

Most Ferraris are verys sensitive to ride hight adjustments, and if not set correctly, no alignment will ever make the car driver right. Corner weighting is another step often ignored that is vital to high speed braking stability and left/right steering feel.

So, you are looking for a shop that does ride heights and corner weighting. Any shop that does these two can handle the alignment parts.

Your absolutely correct Mitch. Thanks for the response. I guess i should have posted an inquiry for a shop that does the above as well. Do you know of any?

    Penske-Wynn sent me this

"see attached pics, we do have a top of line hunter align rack along with a master tech of 38 yrs who works on these the price for a basic 4 wheel align is $599 please let me know how we may be of assistance"

Is this the going rate for an alignment? I know the dealer marks it up substantially but 6 bills for a BACIC ALIGNMENT IS PRETTY STEEP? What is a basic alignment?

    Your thoughts?

    Cheers

That is way steep considering any yoyo who knows how to operate a Hunter machine can do this job. Call Gary at Italy Service. They do not have a Hunter, but I know they will do a good job.

Thanks, I had them do a clutch a few years back, did not know they did alignment and suspension tuning as well.

    Cheers

Yeah Gary does it old school style. He set up my car when the alignment shop with a Hunter machine could not get the steering wheel dead straight.

Thanks for the info. So he can dial in my setup as well as the alignment?

    Cheers,

First let me say that the "Basic alignment" at Wynn is pretty much everything "Mitch Alsup" listed above. So It's probably not just a basic alignment.

Sure any yoyo can do an alignment but Gary does NOT have this machine in his shop!! So what does that mean??? It's going to get subed out to someone else. Now don't get me wrong Gary is a great guy, I've had work done at both Wynn and Italy Service but if I was going to get a Ferrari alignment I'm going to a place that works on Ferrari's and has the machine in house!!! you would never see my car at Joe blow alignment no matter how many Ferrari's they say they've done.

    Just my .02 cents

I'm sure Gary has someone he uses for alignment but you should find out who!!!

good advice, we will see what this $600 "BASIC" alignment is? Your right, I dont want just any yo yo working on the car. Wynn tells me their technician has 35 years experience working on theses cars so that has a definite value to me. $600 is rather steep! but well worth it if that is what it takes to make it right. I called 5 shops in the Vegas area with Hunter machines and they have no experience working on a Ferrari 308. That limits my options.

    Thanks for your .02

    Cheers

I met Rich Kansky and a few of the guys there yesterday. Great guy and great setup there. I made an appointment for Tuesday. They will corner weight it and have me watch and sit in the car, than drive the car. If I don't like the setup they will tweak it to my satisfaction. I was thinking -2.5 camber in the back and -1 up front for my setup. Well worth the money for sure!

    Thank you for the recommendation!

    Cheers,

    Paul
