    This story is fake, surely?

    a) The car would have been discussed here if it was a public auction
    b) TR #714 set a record with 9 million euro's at public auction in 2009. It would not have been a record if that story was accurate.

On-topic again: I was planning to see the Historic GP on Sunday May 2nd, but perhaps I should now attend this auction??? Should be quite exciting. The sale of #714 was quite something - the buzz in the room was palpable.

The last 250 GTO at public auction was Brooks Ferrari sale in Gstaad, Switzerland, Hotel Palace, the date was the 19th December 2000. The car at the time was S/N 4293 GT, owned back then by a collector in Hong Kong. It was not sold at the auction. Some time later on it was privately sold to another collector in Hong Kong.

As per information from RM of today Tuesday 2nd February 2010, GTO 4675 GT is NOT going to be at auction in Monaco. They have it for sale by private treaty, however. The information in post #1 is wrong.

Apparently not- 4675 carries Series II ('64 GTO) coachwork and "Car Movers" is listing a Series I car...

This Media Advisory came today from RM:

ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DESIRABLE FERRARIS COMES TO MARKET
    • RM Auctions offers 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO for private treaty sale
LONDON, England (2 February, 2010) − RM Auctions, the global leader in the collector car market with a specialization in the sale of Ferraris, is representing the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis no. 4675 GT) – one of the most coveted cars in the world, for private treaty sale.
In addition to its impressive motor car auction results at prestigious locations around the globe, including the sale of seven of the top 10 Ferraris ever sold at auction, RM generates an average of $50 million in private treaty transactions year over year.
“The Ferrari GTO is unquestionably one of the most iconic and coveted cars in the world,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe. “This is truly a rare occasion for collectors to acquire such an important piece of automotive history and we are pleased to be chosen by 4675 GT’s current custodian to represent it on the open market.”

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis no. 4675 GT) is one of only 36 250 GTOs originally produced and one of a limited few with Series II GTO bodywork. In addition to being considered one of the most beautiful cars ever built by Ferrari, the GTO was tremendously successful in competition, securing multiple World Championships for the Modenese car builder.

In April 1963, 4675 GT left the factory finished in Rosso Cina. It was raced by such drivers as Guido Fossati, Jean Guichet, Oddone Sigala, Vincenzo Nember and Luigi Taramazzo and proved itself a tremendously capable racing car, rarely finishing outside the top three in its class and achieving numerous race wins. It participated in the full range of competitive events, including hillclimbs, endurance races and rallies.

The present owner acquired 4675 GT in 1996, and has maintained it in his exceptional, world-renowned Japanese collection ever since. Most recently 4675 GT has participated in the ultra-private events reserved only for GTO owners, namely the 35th and 45th GTO Anniversary Tours in France and California.

For more information about the purchase of this car, please contact Max Girardo at RM Auctions on +44 (0) 20 7851 7077.

After taxes, the $56.4M cash value might just do it!

So, a question to the floor, opinion is key here, of course some opinions would be more representative of the reality than others, but none the less (I would welcome and ask of Marcel to come forward at this point)

    What is a;

    Fair price for this car?
    Bargain price for this car?
Realistic future valuation for this car in say, 5 years?

Is this car really one of the best GTO's around?

    Regards

    Mike

Last question first and it depends on the definition of 'best' but 5575 is best and conveniently last to.
Some don't consider the 1964 body style as visually pleasing but they probably still want at least 30M for the keys...

Based on what Jim G, Marcel and others have posted the value would appear to be between
    15 mil and 30 mil.

I would be reasonably sure that the low figure would be for a car with a questionable history, maybe a replacement body or engine .............. And the high figure would be for an immaculate car that did well at Le Mans and is totally original.

And Series 2 cars would be worth 15 - 20 mil.

All my opinion, and others have a much greater knowledge than I

I think this auction proves that a Series II GTO is not as beautiful or sort after as a Series I ('62) as the owner of this car has 3 GTO's (I believe) and he is letting the "ugly" '63 go first. Fair enough I say ...

In actual fact, this is the ONLY GTO which remains with the owner.

He sold 3673 SA (4-liter, LHD) in 2002, Serial No. 3445 GT (Series I, LHD) in 2003, and Serial No. 3505 GT (Series I, RHD) in 2005.

Therefore, 4675 GT is the VERY LAST one he's letting go (i.e. of the four he's owned).

Reading the RM Press Release, it would appear the car is not being auctioned, but is instead offered on a Private Treaty basis by them, etc.

Beauty it would seem is in the 'eye of the beholder'. A Mr Bardinon who does have a 1964 GTO has stated it would be the LAST car he would sell from his collection...
