I know we have the classic Rolex Daytona (the only Rolex I like). Then we got some 5000 $ watches from Seiko which are really cool too. What else is there? Just curious, thought a thread on it would be nice, as there are many watch enthusiasts here.

What do you consider a watch for a driver? A chronograph?

There are plenty of TAG Heuer race watches, including the reissue of the classic Le Mans watch worn by Steve McQueen.

Chopard, Oris, Tissot, Longines, Jacques Lemans and Martin Braun have all made race-related watches.

My favorite is one whose name I just can't remember right now, but it came with a bezel engraved with the names of all the F1 tracks on the calendar for the year it was produced. I remember the watchmaker saying he would make new bezels following the changes for each season, so you could keep it as up to date as you liked.

Good question. I actually don't know. Maybe those which are marketed as a driver watch?

Seiko used to advertise a watch where the lcd display was slightly rotated (30 deg?) as being a driver's watch. Omega made one with a display turned 90 degrees.
Back in the 1930s Gruen offered a driver's watch in their Curvex line and it was designed to be worn on the inside edge of the wrist.

Oris did one with the names of all of the tracks printed on the dial. TT3 Grand Prix limited edition of 1800.

Yeah, it wasn't that one...this was a low-volume watchmaker. If I can find the link I'll post it.

Well you can't go wrong with Richard Mille watches. The new Tag Heur watch that runs on belts instead of the usual gears is very car/driver related. Also the Chopard line, Gran turismo, has power gauges that are labled like a gas tank.

Good post! Are you talking about the Grand Carrera? They have an Audi R8 in the commercial.

Nope, it took me 20 minutes to figure it out, but it was actually a Vogard watch I was thinking of. I remember emailing the company to see if they could update the bezel with the current circuit, and they said it would be no problem, although I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.

Here's the company page for the latest version:

I'm toying with the idea of a Ghram Chronofighter... I like the heavy huge look with the two big sub dials...

Chopard Mile Miglia are great looking watches as well.. I have a black faced one with a leather strap... as well as a Daytona...

My F1 watch is kaput...dropped it one too many times :)o)...repair shop quoted me $280 for a new movement and not worth it considering I paid ~ $100 for the watch.

I'm keeping my eyes open for something to replace it but not in a rush since I have another watch I can wear.

I'd like a watch with a racing or driver theme and conservative enough to wear with anything anywhere.

Hard part is my budget is $100, might stretch up to $150 shipped for something that really catches my eye, but really need to stay close to $100.

I might go with another Jacques Lemans but am certainly open to other brands.

    Suggestions?

    TIA.

Many watch companies made watches pre WW2 that were meant to be worn on the edge of the wrist, so you didn't have to take your hand off the wheel to read the time. Here's a Gruen. Patek made them, VC too.

If only I had a spare $200k laying around.....

Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives with the same side-view arrangement?
