Greetings all. I will be heading a road tour in July from Mass. to the NCRS national in Charlotte NC and would like to know if any forum members know if the US F1 facility will be open. Specifically for tours etc. Since the convention is in the heart of NASCAR country I thought my group might like a change from the norm.

    Thanks !

Why would you want to go there? They are a toaster manufacturer.

Besides: By July their doors will be closed. Permanently.

    LOL

That's the beauty of PeeWee's "innovative concept": With bare bones "offices" it will take them only hours to clear the space.

Wow ! Seems like I pulled the pin on a grenade and flipped the spoon... now what ??
With due respect to all who replied my group would like to see the facility and tour it if its available to do so. As a multiple Ferrari and Corvette owner this would be a chance to see something completely different as Monty Python would say...
As an NCRS level 300 plus judge the technology and set up are of great interest to me. I have a diverse group coming along and I believe they too would enjoy it. We are also doing track time at Lowes and my Grand Sport is quietly waiting it's wake up call.
As far as what the detractors say, I will let you know when I get there...
If it's up and running great if not then I am sure we can find something to do.

    Thanks again...

I could be wrong, but I'm beginning to think its all smoke and mirrors too. Most everyone else is testing and they have not even submitted to FIA crash testing.

I seriously doubt they are letting anyone in.......UNLESS they finally have something to show other than computer renderings.

But in case you do get in, make sure you have one of those little spy cameras so you can post photos of your visit.

Well, you've been involved in racing and understand the time constraints. They have 5 weeks left.

    Job list:

Build a crash test car (needs to be basically complete)

Build a test car for Barber test

Build second car, sign driver and fit driver.

    Build spares, equipment

    Ship all to Spain

    Test in Spain

Ship to first race. Enjoy toast for breakfast.

Not at all. I went to the facility and saw the emptiness. The only pictures I took were of the empty marquee sign out front and of the front door. They would not let me get past the lobby.

I posted the pictures a while back.

Look, great things can happen in 2 months, but this crew has not proven itself particularly adept.

Okay, I put the pin back in the grenade and I have read all the comments and reviews as to whether the US F1 organisation will actually achieve something or be a non starter.
We have nothing to lose by "visiting" in July and if any one can give me directions from the Charlotte area, thankyou.
Since I will be in the area for a week the most I would lose is driving to an empty building or a restricted area and if it's up and running then that's one for the plus column. I can always use a good toaster... if it is not.
For what it's worth I wish them well. Maybe they won't be in the top tier or if they will even field a car but with the huge investment needed and the tanked economy they at least (who ever they are ) show courage. Obviously photos are a must if there is indeed something or someone to photograph. We shall see...
Peter Windsor, if you read this I respect your effort.

Who knows, but maybe the team should be renamed to ArgentinaF1 as that seems to be the major funder what only a week ago......I've built a lot of pro cars in very short time but they were from an existing tub. I don't see it happening any part of this season.

Did you follow the story from the beginning?

If so, what part commanded the most respect? The part about being a launching board for young American talent, which ended up being a pay driver ride? Or the part about the innovative approach, which so far hasn't produced a car? Or is it the clever logistics of carrying the equipment trans Atlantic for the races?

Let me guess, it was that super strong American carbon fibre.

    Yes, please. Plenty of photos.

"This is where the cars were going to be assembled... This is where they were going to put the trophy case... The gift shop was going to be over here..."

Seriously, I admire Peter and team for putting forth the effort and getting as far as they have, but if they actually have a car on the grid in March, that will be the biggest surprise of the 2010 season.

That's the part I never quite understood. I can imagine they will end up with a car on the grid. But a trophy case? For what? To store the frequent flier miles they will rack up flying in from the States?

Thans to all who offered advice etc. for my July stop at the US F1 facility. Whether it or the team exists at that time remains to be seen. The opinions are split. Talk about a hot button topic !
If the building is empty them maybe I will by it and throw a party for the forum... Either way I cant lose...
