I am having a 1/18 Kyosho F40 repainted and we are having difficulty taking it completely apart.

Does anyone here know how to do this? Please post instructions, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't taken the F40 apart but I have taken a couple of 308s apart and can tell that Kyosho uses a lot of glue and hidden screws. It's almost unavoidable to break things. Good luck!

edit: I also have problems with getting the paint off. I've tried all the tricks in the book AFAIK but with little result. Especially the insides (that are painted black) are hard to do.

Good lacquer thinner strips everything easily.

I've only used thinner available at the regular DIY shops. Are there any specialized thinners for lacquers as well? I dip the whole body into a container of thinner and let it sit for a day or two. Wrong method? I'm about to give it another try so any help is much appreciated!

Brake fluid takes most anything off. Also if you ever need to strip chrome off plastic oven cleaner works well.

Mr Muscle "Ovenreiniger" is worth trying.

Go to a shop that sells auto paints, and get some good automotive lacquer thinner (DuPont, Standox, etc). You can dip or just scrub the paint with brush dipped in thinner, depends on how dirty you want to get.
Brake fluid works too, but it'll take days for die-cast, since paint on diecasts is baked on.

The best chem I have ever used to strip paint from metal is called Aircraft remover... it can be found at your local hardware shop, and a gallon lasts a long time. It also has a wire tray so you can soak parts. (Do not use it on plastic)

You really have got to wear gloves and protect your eyes...its wicked stuff.

Try asking or searching on diecastxchange or project118.

Thank you. I've tried diecastpub, diecastxchange, and cavallino club, all to no avail.

I have taken 2 kyosho yellow 1:12 F40's apart. Both still apart one waiting for seat colour swap.
My other one in my first experience broke the rear lift gate glass , because i lost focus of what needed to be done first and because of hidden attachments . So I took out interior and dash and COMPLETE engine with suport framing and complete rear axle assenbly , so I left one wheel on the other off and mirror underneath. I used the 2 front tires as spares in 2 of my other 1:12's and used the rears with the engine display.

I tell you that engine makes a SUPER COOL display even better then the pocher 1/8th motor because it is more complete and better done , UNLESS you take the pocher 1/8th and add all the photo-etch parts etc to it. So does the Blk interior .

I bet I could sell that alone for $150usd atleast. mainly because not to many folks are going to buy a perfect 1:12 F40 for $325usd + not including shipping etc risk taking it apart only to display just an engine etc . And finding one damaged , well I am 24/7 on ebay etc , and since they cam out only seen 1. And that just had a broken prop rod. NOW could be wrong .

Second car went easy. They don't like to come apart. I think I took enough apart off of mine for you to be able to re-paint yours. Too bad they didn't make more accessories , aftermarket parts for these Kyosho 1:12 F40's. what they make for the 1:12 plastic models or even the Fujimi 1:12 diecast don't work .

BASICIALLY I think it is because they DO NOT come apart easy at all. APM stuff was expensive and where they were resin you had prep work to do and painting.
WE collectors tend to perfer already done /completed parts so they just require install. And anything for this car is EXPENSIVE. Now just rims and tires, from what 2 sellers / makers. Not a big fan of resin for many reasons give me plastic or photo-etch or metal instead.

I do tend to explain things in great detail , But I might loose you in HOW I explain things. we can exchange HOW TO step by step photo's . What's you email ???

There was one taken apart the best it could be done by a member of www.diecastpub.com. He painted it white for a customer. He does good work. Search under Ferrari F40 maybe.

kyosho blk 1:12 F40's came with red seats but the car did not have the light weight inner door panels and glass or exhaust you see in that photo.

Kyosho blk 1:18 F40's were all light weight with blk seats.

That's a photo of a 1:18 Kyosho lightweight someone swapped in regular rims and red seats. plus 1:18 came with word F40 on rear license plate...1:12 were blank.

A yellow 1:18 kyosho F40 converted to complete lightweight > exhaust / door glass and panels rims , it already has blk seats , just sold a few days ago for $140.60usd.
Ebay #120522150111, seller nicholademus.....Email him to see how he did atleast what he was able to do . Even though looks like he never needed to take car completely apart.

So this same ebay seller would have a blk one with swapped parts too . regular rims , door panels and glass and regular exhaust.

That modder did not use a red light for swap parts for this yellow lightweight because he would have had to paint the inner door panels from red to blk .

I still think there are many collectors as well as modders they don't join websites or talk on them much or at all if they are members.

Then fine out who did that blk one... REMEMBER to post ALL details and any photo's you get from any of these modders.
