    Hello!

My 1964 Sebring II is at the moment painted in red, with black leather interior. I know the car rolled out of the factory in december 64 painted in yellow...

I'm thinking about a respray, but I am not sure what color to go with.
    Anyone have a suggestion?
I do like the California white/off-white that came on the 3500, but this wasn't available on the Sebring as far as I know.

    Any thoughts would be helpful!
I enclose a photo of the car as it is now.

Yello? What is the VIN of your car? I strongly suggest NOT to respray it in that color. But red IMO is also not a good Maserati-GT-color. I recently saw a tobacco-brown Sebring with crema interior. That car was stunning. Or - why not a "verde" livery? Mid-green-metallic would be nice. Important is, that you choose a 60ies-tone. Silver, grey etc. are too much influenced by the common taste in our days....(IMO).

    Ciao!

    Walter,
I agree with you about your colour suggestion.
I agree with you, especially about what you say on color of Maserati Gt of the sixties.
As posted in other threads, I don't understand and I don't agree the fact that too many Maserati of those years are painted in racing red. It's a shame to see repainted such cars in a so showy and tawdry colour and not with another original and more appealing tone.
In any case, which colours exactly are the two you suggested among the list of Sebring original factory paints ?

This is the list (sorry if in Italian):

    Sebring 1963-69

    Acqua Di Fonte
    Amaranto
    Amaranto Rame
    Argento Auteuil Metallizzato
    Argento Luna
    Azzurro Metallizzato
    Beige
    Beige Metallizzato
    Bianco
    Bianco Polo Park
    Blu Metallizzato
    Blu Sera Metallizzato
    Grigio Albany Metallizzato
    Grigio Epson
    Grigio Fumo
    Grigio Inglewood
    Grigio Metallizzato
    Grigio Montebello Metallizzato
    Grigio Newmarket Metallizzato
    Oro Metallizzato
    Rosso Capannelle
    Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato
    Verde
    Verde Bosco Metallizzato
    Verde Tevere Metallizzato

    Andrea,
thanks for the Sebring-color-list. The tobacco-color might not be original but it suited the Sebring perfectly. Unfortunately I didn`t had my camera with me and I hate taking photos with mobile-phones etc.! So I missed that car for pics.

The verde-color is perfect but not sure about the differences in this two metallic version you listed. The correct Maserati-colors are a very delicate issues today. Look to the seven (!!) different grey-tones Maserati had on offer. Does anybody know today how they were in those days?

    Ciao!

Thanks for your comments, I totally agree with you Walter, yellow seems a bit odd on the Sebring, and red is just too much of a fancy sportscar for me.

I would very much like to go with a 60s color, but I haven't seen a lot of Sebrings in interesting colors. And it would also be nice if the car actually came with the color back in the 60s.

I found a few 3500s on the net with interesting colors, what do you think?
Are any of these original colors?

(Walter, the VIN is AM101.10.015., and according to Kerry at MIE the factory buildsheet says it was delivered dec 64 to a Mr. Ciranna of Torini, in yellow exterior and black leather interior)

The colours factory list of the 3500 GT/GTi was very different and more extended from the Sebring's list.
So, the pictures you posted showing two 3500 cars, probably, depicts different colours from the Sebring's ones.

This is the original list concerning the 3500 GT/GTi :

    3500 GT/GTI
    AM.101 1958-64

    Amaranto
    Argento
    Argento Auteuil metallizzato
    Argento Luna
    Avana
    Avorio
    Azzurro
    Azzurro metallizzato
    Azzurro Reale
    Azzurro Vincennes
    Bianco Avorio
    Bianco Polo Park
    Bianco Saratoga
    Blu
    Blu Cobalto
    Blu Ischia metallizzato
    Blu metallizzato
    Blu Sera metallizzato
    Blu Tigullio metallizzato
    Celeste Ardenza metallizzato
    Celeste Chiaro metallizzato
    Grigio
    Grigio Albany metallizzato
    Grigio Fumo
    Grigio Grafite
    Grigio Inglewood
    Grigio metallizzato
    Grigio Montebello
    Grigio Montebello metallizzato
    Grigio Newmarket metallizzato
    Grigio Platinato
    Grigio Talpa
    Oro Antico metallizzato
    Rosso Cordoba metallizzato
    Rosso metallizzato
    Rosso Rubino metallizzato
    Verde
    Verde Acqua Caliente
    Verde Bosco metallizzato
    Verde Pavone metallizzato
    Verde Savidin
    Verde Scuro
    Verde Tevere metallizzato

As you can see, from this list, there were 43 colours against 25 colours of the Sebring list.
Be careful in taking examples from 3500 GT/Gti paints.
In my (taliban purist...) opinion, ask to Ermanno Cozza which was the original paint of your lovely car, supplying him the Vin number and after, repaint the car in the original colour he says. He is the Bible so, you will not be wrong, believe me.
And, if you will not like the original colour suggested, choose in any case a light colour in contrast with the black colour of the interior.

    Ciao
    Andrea

    Hi Kimm
I think yellow with a bit of metallic would be very nice. You could change the interior color to... hmmm so many choices, we have an yellow Abarth with a blue, off white and red interior. Too flashy for a Sebring but it looks just fine in the Fiat.
I have a period road test on the Sebring that states it was available in over 200 colors.
Please please please tell me your body number, located on a tag between the hood hinges, or on trim pieces.
The earliest I have recorded is 10.131, body #70.
Mine is red also, and my interior is black.

    Andrea,
I wonder if Ermanno could tell you the diffeences between "Grigio Luna" (with the Spyder-Vignale) and "Grigio Montebello". He can provide the (today outdated!) code - but if this finally helps to find the correct color...?

    Hello Kimm...

On the TMC:Southeast website.. www.tmcsoutheast.com you will find
a few more pictures of a gold 3500GT... Look in the section called Member
Profile... This may help with your decision...

I may even be able to get you the paint code for it, if you would like...

    Thanks for the input.

Maserich, I will look for the bodynumber next time I'm at the garage where I keep the car over the winter.

And Mexico074, the gold tone looks very nice, is this the one called Oro metallizzato?
Are there any Sebrings out there in gold?

And Andy, I agree with you asking Mr Cozza for input sure would be helpful, but like I stated, the original color of my car is yellow, which in my mind is far from the perfect color for a Sebring. I am more thinking of a subtle 60s color that will make the Sebring look its best.

    Dear friends,

I miss Nero as a Sebring colour on the list. My Sebring 2 (nr. 269) is painted in that colour.
It is original I am sure, as I have the Avviso Spedizione of 2 May 1966, which says the car was delivered "carrozzata ... verniciatura color Nero interno pelle senape".
As I wanted my car in original shape I have had painted it that way. The paint is still available, it is Max Mayer nr. 12830. Also all the other original colours can be obtained at Max Mayer's.
The interior leather was checked by a specialist, who brought back the "senape", which is some kind of light brown/yellow/mustard.

A friend of mine btw has a Sebring 1 in red with black interior, which also suits the car very nicely.

    Best regards,

    Pieter Noordman

Sorry to hijack this thread but you are touching on a subject for which I need assistance. The original color of my Vignale spyder was Max Meyer 10.319 (white). Max Meyer was purchased some years ago by PPG and is still available in Europe, but not in the USA.

I would appreciate if someone can contact their local Max Meyer paint distributor and inquire if paint code 10.319 is still available; and ask the following questions:

    - what is the name of the color ? (Bianco Avorio, Bianco Polo Park, Bianco Saratoga or ??)
    - is there a cross reference to a current Max Meyer paint code?
    - can they provide a cross reference to a paint code for another PPG brand of paint that is available in the USA? In the USA the most common PPG paints are Deltron and Concept.

I sent an e-mail to Max Meyer in the UK but have not heard back.

So sorry, but I reported that number wrong...
The correct number is 10.139, and it belongs to Keith Duly.
