I'm beyond shocked that anyone can have this opinion as I and many of my friends believe it to be the best-looking four-door car ever made. And this remains one of the best vanity plates I've ever seen...

The chrome trim and chintsy looking front end make it look cheap and tacky and dated to me.

I notice that a lot of people say they love the E38 7 series, but honestly, I never see them on the road. I see tons of 3 series and 5 series, but rarely a 7. So it seems that people love them a lot, just not enough to actually buy and drive them :)

I just saw the new 5GT yesterday. It's a kind of a hatchback/SUV mix, and it looks pretty good, IMO. It was sitting next to an older 5 and it looked much nicer, was bigger in every single way, with much better looking headlights.

The interior was something else too, I have an '03 745 and, honestly, it put my interior to shame. Very nice.

...I'm undecided. It looks like a small 7.

We'll see what the M5 has to offer, then the verdict will be rendered.

Again, just like the E39 (and almost all BMW's), it comes down to trim package. In base form, most BMW's are quite atrocious looking. The sport-package did wonders for the E38...

Remember people, beauty is in the eye of the beholder....unless we are talking about a prius of bmw x6, both of which are extremely ugly looking unless you are totally blind....

Bland and boring. They'll sell a ton of them to folks who just -need- the badge.

I am one of those who think the E38 7 is stunning when properly trimmed.

Its understated and looks solid. To me it is a classic and timeless look.

The only large 4 door sedans I can think of that look better have been released by Bentley and Audi.

This is how the last generation 5 should have looked - a great evolution from the late 90's-early 00's - instead of what the last 5 looked like... which wasn't good

The M5 that comes from this (if the photoshops are any indication) is going to be stellar looking

It looks nice, but I never found it that exciting, even in M5 trim.

I hate to say it, but I really like the photos of the new 5. It seems much better proportioned than the current clunky-looking 3, even if the design theme is the same. I know it will be common as dirt once its launched, but I would consider one as a daily driver.

The current 5 is an incoherent disaster -- I think the redesign is a staggeringly huge improvement.

thread bump (DrS, queue the necromancer card :))

The New 5's are at the dealers now, and I must say they look pretty good. not beautiful, and not what I would want a new 5 series to look like, but relative to the E-class and the rest of its competition it looks great.

Interestingly, one of the cars was a 550 with a 6-speed manual, that has to be a fairly unusual spec.

Meh........BMW has truly, and IMHO permanently, lost it's sense of style, it's nothing more than a "techno-badge" now.......the thing still looks like the crap Bangle designed.

Its like looking at an Accord or a Camry. Just blah. But I expect to see them everywhere, especially at the local golf course.

I'm with you, the new 5 looks very nice. Classy-aggressive if you ask me.
