had an item in a recent catalog (which I can't locate at the moment), a dvd of '50s SoCal sports car racing. Any vintage Brit car owners recall seeing this in the Moss catalogs? KevFla Orlando, FL
Wow -- that MGA rollover at 5:55 had to hurt... Also amazing to see those Gullwings going at it in the corner. I suppose they were "just cars" back then.
Wow, great film. Makes Tom Burnside's "American roadracing" pictures come alive. Thanks for sharing! Only other possibility to see this kind of racing nowadays is Le Mans Classic, Goodwood Revival or Laguna Seca...
kevfla- I haver the Moss DVD set and it is fantastic to see racing from numerous tracks in the 50s and 60s. Go here for info: http://tamsoldracecarsite.net/AlMossPage1.html Bullfighter- the MGA rollover was the first fatality at Riverside; John Lawrence.
I, also, have these dvd's. They are a treasure for those that love vintage racing. Do yourself a favor and spend the money. You will not regret it. George
Loved the video. I didn't make it to Riverside in person until 64 though. But I remember the track well from later visits. This last weekend I spent time with the Wood's D type and can just imagine how great that race would have been from the driveer's seat.
You wonder why it took so long to bring in roll bars.It wasn't long after these films were taken. By 1960 when I started roll bars were required. Otherwise the scene stayed pretty much the same. The only good thing about getting old is you were young enough to have been there. just one man's opinion tongascrew
Brings the Burt Levy books to life. Highly inconsistent driving skill by the looks of things. Just guys with cool foreign cars out having fun.
I was wrong about Palm Springs; James Smith's Ferrari 166 Berlinetta (at 13:56) still wearing #94 from Palm Springs set me off. I think clips change at 13:04. From that point on the clips are from November event. Best wishes, Kare
