I blame the internet on this one. About 4 weeks ago I bought a 05 Boxster S as a weekend/toy car and haven't even had the opportunity to drive it yet thanks to the back-to-back snow storms here in the Philly area. I was looking around on a few websites and came across a thread about can regular guys own a 360. Not being familiar with the Fcar market I chimed in and said no way, it's a rich man's car, costing $150K at least and routinely requiring $20K repair bills. Dug a bit deeper into the thread, saw the prices mentioned for 360s and this site mentioned as well. Decided to register on here and ask a few questions, searched the net for pricing, exchanged numerous PMs with people on here who owned a 360 and came to find the pricing for the 360s is reasonable and my maintenance theory was not accurate. So I came up with the idea of planning on getting a 360 within about 2 years. That would allow pricing to come down, hopefully, give me some time behind my new to me Pcar and also attend a few C&Cs and look at these cars up close. Fast forward about 2 1/2 weeks and I have found a 360 and put a deposit on it yesterday. Next week the paperwork will be completed and then it will be transported it it's new home here in the Philly burbs.

I don't think there are a lot of things you buy without knowing every intimate detail about, except for me a Ferrari. It's what I've wanted since I was about 13 years old. Granted I have only seen a hand full of these up close but always knew I wanted one. Last week I stopped in a Porsche dealer who had an 05 360 spider in the showroom. Not what I wanted or could afford, but gave me a chance to see one up close. I couldn't stop smiling when I was looking at the car.

My wife is excited as well. Our only real question is how will we use this car. It's pretty simple to jump into a Boxster and cruise to the store, park in parking lots, valet, etc., but I think having this 360 is taking it to another level. Or am I making too much of this?

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. It's a 2000 360 red/tan 6sp manual, CD changer, power seats, 8500 miles and the major service was just completed last week. It's at a Ferrari dealership and they agreed to spray the front bumper to make it perfect. Has about 3 small dimples (from door openings?) which will be fixed via paintless dent removal. I am ordering the Yoshi shields which they will install prior to shipment. Has red brake calipers too.

Thanks to everyone on this site who answered a lot of my questions along the way. Especially to UnderPSI (Jim) who actually went to the dealership for me and checked out the car and offered great feedback, as well as asking them questions I did not think of asking.

I need this snow to melt! I am guessing first week of March the car will be here.

Congrats, you will love it. Good choice on the manual. As far as driving it to the store, if my wife needs something from the store I always volunteer to go get it. Then I grab the Ferrari key and off I go. I drive mine as much as possible, it is too fun to not do it!

    Congrats John,

you will need to pick you fcar destinations.......I certainly wouldnt park it in a shopping mall parking lot. When I/we go out I always try to park it in view at restaurants etc etc

Its no fun eating a meal worrying about somebody messing with your fcar :)

WOW - that was fast. I saw your posts on that "working man" thread and noticed over a couple of pages your mind trying to figure out how you could get one. LOL.

Congrats - you did a great job for such a short time period.

Sounds like a great car. Personally, I'd skip the fake shield routine myself though. That really detracts from a 360 in my opinion unless they are the factory shields with the fender that accepts them.

    Either way, congrats!

Congratulations. I saw a thread on "regular guys" owning 360's on another site. Hoping to get into a CS later this year or this time next year. Would like to see pics when you get it. Especially of it getting delivered to you.

John - Congrats. I knew you couldn't wait 2 years! Now waiting the 10 days for it to arrive will be excruciating. Enjoy your beautiful 360.

It is most definitely taking things to another level. Get used to cell phone cameras, complete strangers approaching you, lots of people staring. Most people think these cars are far less attainable than they have become (think of your own perceptions a few weeks back, that's how most people perceive them).

Personally I think I've become a little precious with mine (gorgeous 360 bought from UnderPSI, about to be replaced by a 430 Spider so I'm going to be even worse with that).

It's a piece of metal, simple. Just have lots of fun with it :)

I'm guilty of "helping" John with his decision....he should have never contacted me- ha!

The only thing is of course not to take it into areas where high parking traffic leads to increased risk of getting dinged, and remember the front is low- be careful going up bumps into parking lots etc, and of course don't pull too close to a front facing parking spot.

People will stop and ask you about the car, so budget that in if you are in a rush- I always try to answer questions or let people sit in the car etc...you have to get used to people looking at your car (and you), but it's all in good fun.

Regarding the shields, as you know I'm very satisfied with my Yoshi shields....if you or the next owner doesn't like them it's a 10 second hair drier blast away from safely removing them. I can guarantee any non-ferrari owner and 99% of ferrari owner's won't notice the fact that the sheild isn't recessed 2MM into the body. I love the look.

One more thing- while I've never driven my car yet in "normal" 60-70 degree temps, at least in cold spring mornings (and maybe even on 70-80 degree days for first drive I don't know yet), you'll have to skip 2nd gear for a couple of miles- just go from 1st to 3rd, don't try to force it into 2nd. I think the gearbox oil ferrari uses is so thick it takes time to warm up. It gets very hot in the tranny once up to full operating temp, so that's probably why the compromise is made with the tough 2nd shift when cold.

Other than that it's just a (very special) car- I start mine up and let it idle for maybe 5 seconds, back her out of the garage and go- keeping it under 3,500 rpm as I drive until the OIL is up to full temp (which takes a while). I don't do the "let her idle for 10 minutes before driving" thing- cars warm up better when driven gently...maybe that was a good rule with the carbed more tempremental cars of the 60s and 70s.

Most of all enjoy the car- it was a dream for pretty much all of us! As I said in one of our PMs- you live only one time- for me I wanted to own a Ferrari at some point in my life before leaving this earth!

    Good luck with her!
    -Andrew

This week will be a long one with the holiday, finalizing paperwork and arranging for shipment. I've asked plenty of people about pricing so I could get a better understanding of the market and if anyone wants to know the purchase price if because they are thinking of getting a 360 it was $78,500. That's with spraying the front bumper and using PDR to remove about 3 small dings and just coming out of a fresh major with oil and fluid change and belts and tensioners. They say the car is detailed and will redo the interior (thanks to UnderPSI).

Here is the link to the car. Not a ton of options but this suits my needs just fine!

Andrew911, Eric360, carnut and several others really helped me out a lot. Jim going to look at the car was awesome. My wife thought I was nuts when I told her Jim was actually going to check out the car in person for me. Thanks again Jim!

Congrats SeaNile, I bet the only regret you'll have regarding your new car is the same regret I have. Namely that I was a dope for not buying it sooner.

When the weather and roads clear LMK if you ever want to take a Sunday drive over the river and steth its legs.

Geez give the guy a break....buying his dream car and setting it up the way he wants, and people jump in on the shields. If you buy the car from him you can remove them ;)

+2. If you like shields and it didn't come with them, what choice do you have? But challenge grill and tubi would be great additions. Any way you cut it, it will be a fabulous ride. Grinning from ear to ear.

In all fairness, would I even be able to tell if they were not factory since I have never seen a car with them? Maybe if this was my 3rd or 4th car I would be a little more picky but at this point I think the car looks slightly plain and the shields will be a nice addition. I can live with the Yoshi shields. If I don't like them they come right off. No big deal. I'm not a Ferrari purest, I'm buying a great car without shields. Doesn't bother me. I will drive for a while and see if a Tubi is really needed. Is it needed, why? I have nothing to compare my car to and will be happy with the sound...I think.

lol... you know those gay shields would be the first thing I'd remove if I bought the car from him haha :)

Shields are okay (although some feel only the race cars should really have them). Either way, if I had them on my car, it's gotta be with the proper embossed fender from the factory so they sit down in there like they are supposed to. The ones that mount on top of the fender just make it look too much like a kit car for my taste.

Regarding parking... I take my car virtually everywhere, but probably could use a second car in tow, given how far away from the store I often have to park. Get allot of exercise though. Enjoy the car. Best
