While I was preparing Chassis #08118 for Cavallino, I had to find a replacement for my lost jack bumper - Pix #1 below. My research, primarily on FChat, told me that I needed a black plastic cap that was 30mm in diameter and at least 8mm high. I figured that if I could find such a cap, I would cut the height to size, pretty much fill it with black silicon sealant and stick it on that protrusion you see in the pix, let it dry and that would be the new bumper.

I found plastic caps in the McMaster-Carr catalog with 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" diameters and both heights more than 8mm. 30mm falls right between those diameters and the minimum quantity buy was 100. Since I had no time to spare "experimenting" with which diameter was best, I ordered 100 of each at less than $7 per 100. The 1 1/8" was close to perfect. Pix #2 shows the required items to do this fix. That's a handsaw with an 18 teeth/inch blade used to cut the 1 1/8" plastic cap height to 8MM. The pix shows one cap uncut and one cut to 8mm and that's a tube of black silicon RTV sealant. Pix #3 shows the cap installed and held in place while the silicon cures overnight. Pix #4 is the finished product which passed the scrutiny of the judges at Cavallino.

If anyone needs a replacement bumper, I've got about 98 1 1/8" caps remaining. Send me a PM with your complete address and I'll send you a couple, FREE.

    Good luck,

    Bill

Yes, Mike Dunn of Mad Enterprises makes repro jack top caps. I've had one for years and it looks like he has dropped the price $20 since I bought mine.

DINO JACK CAP (Either size) 60.50 / ea

If you want a photo of the one I bought from him to see how it fits, let me know and I'll dig it out and get a pic.

PS - I heard he recently had health issues from a friend whose shop was in Fremont, CA. If you contact him, tell him we wish him prayers for his fast recovery.

Graham, these jack caps have two different sizes. So it depends on your jack. The difference is just a fraction, but if you get the wrong one it won`t fit. You can see the difference just on the inside of the cap. Two different pattern.

    Good job!

I think I recognize those rubber bands as what comes on fresh asparagus.
