I own a 308 but might like to add a 355, but lately I've been falling for the 348, I used to dislike the wheels, side strakes and tail lights, now it's down to the wheels and the Stradale style wheels looks great on a 348, I actually like the other things now. I've seen some here with those rims and I like it a lot! There's probably lots of threads about this already, but I read the 308 section, so please don't flame me if this is a silly question, thanks. Is any year 348 improved over the first ones? I'd be looking for a Berlinetta.

i think there are a few "issues" with the 355 that if arent sorted correctly or previously can get very expensive. that was what my dealer told me when i was looking for one or the other. headers on the 355 can be a nasty cost i hear?

The 355 is a much better car in my opinion, i prefer it over the 348 any time but also is more troublesome than the 348, valve guides, headers etc. if you are going to buy a 355, make sure these issues have been resolved and that the car was taken care thru the years.
The newer 348 are surely better than the earlier ones, starting with the 2.7 ECU's and over the years other improvements were a better stability at speed and shifting besides more horses. My opinion, once again, is .... If your budget allows you, buy a 355.

People bash the headers ($2800) and valve guides (do it during a major and it's not that bad). But I have heard many a story of 348 gearboxes going, and both 348s I know personally had cam belt pulleys explode and trash the heads.

So what is worse...$2800 for a set of headers, or 25k for a gearbox?

I am starting to hear issues with 360s; it's just a matter of time. I wish every time someone typed "it's not a Honda" a dime went into my account. I'd never have to pay for service again :)

Personally, I'd get the one you LIKE the best. Otherwise, none of it is worth it.

i was told that a major and resolving the "normal" issues with a 355 is close to 20 grand by a trusted dealer friend of mine.

In fairness, my 348 gearbox wasn't 25k. The expenses for 2007 however did cross $37k when all added up.

They all have issues. Just buy the car that tugs at your heart stronger than at your wallet.

If you are trying to draw a comparison between the 348 and 355 drive them both. They are very differant cars with very differant feels. I personally love the more raw and more connected feel of the 348 but to each, his own. FYI, I tackled my gearbox before it grenaded for <10k. 2.6 of that was clutch parts that had nothing to do with the box.

This is true. I spent $21k to make mine right. However, that included a 30k engine-out service, as well.

    I love my 355!!!

    Texas of course!
They all have their issues. The 348 is technically less complex, and that inherently should prove less troublesome with age, but sometimes logic doesn't make sense ;)

I saw this in a different thread yesterday. This is not an attempt to sway you away from the 355, but rather to assist you if you do go for the 355 because then you should make sure that everything here has been sorted and if it has not then you can negotiate a better price so that you can take care of these issues yourself....and at the same you will impress the seller by appearing to have done your homework on the 355 and know what you are talking about ;)

I agree with you and also Rifledriver.

The 355 is a bit more problematic than the 348. But, it's also a nicer car. You have to take that into consideration. It's a bit of a crap shoot so buy what you want, not what "might" happen.

They can all get expensive. Isn't that the fun (or should I say "charm")?

I try not to think about what things might break and how much they might cost (and I don't have deep pockets). For me, it's all about the sound of the engine behind me and the size of the smile on my face each time I turn the key, back it out of the garage and stomp down on the gas pedal! :D:D:D

The 355 is just awesome ...... the 355's looks and sound justify any required 'maintenance' IMO.
