It's time for new tires. What's good, what's bad on the market these days? Any and all recommendations/experiences appreciated.

Do not go for tires with V-shaped threads........I tried Toyo of some kind and the car was dangerous.....in speeds over 150 km / h = 85 Mph.......real unstable and dangerous.

The importer here in Sweden took them back without any discussion at all which we thought was a kind gesture.

We then bought another brand with straight threads and now everything is ok again.

    Good Luck !!!

I have been using Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's on the rear of my F355. They are very sticky tires but I only get about 8K miles on the rear tires before they are bald. I have replaced the rears twice in two years. I just purchased a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, hope they last longer. Up front, I have the Pirelli P-Zero Direzzionales. So far about 30k miles on them-great tire.

    Funny you ask.

I too have run PZero Assymetricos for 4+ years. They are decent tires, but their treadwear is abyssmal. Even properly inflated, you'll chew through them in no time on the back.

After having my tail get 45 degrees on a recent drive home in the rain last week(on a bridge no less), I decided it was time for some tires.

I did some homework and ended up purchasing a set of 4 Fuzion tires from Tirerack. They are an off brand from Bridgestone or BFGoodrich, but their specifications were pretty impressive for their price. Traction AA, 300+ treadwear. They aren't Z speed rated, but frankly I don't see 186 very often so I'm not too concerned about it.

Also being in Florida, I wanted some pretty deep tread for moving water.

About a week into them and they feel pretty good. After adjusting pressure a bit, high speed stability is fine for me, and wet traction is very good. Hard to compare them to my old tires since tread flex always feels floaty on new tires, but they seem to grip just as well as my PZeros and cost 1/3 as much.

I'm not sure I'd endorse them as road/track tires, but for a weekend driver they seem great.

From my experience, the PZero or the Pilots you can't go wrong with either. I just got tired of picking up a nail and being forced to buy two new tires.

Pirelli has a new PZero (not Rossos) that is longer lasting than the Rossos at 220 wear rating, about the same as the similar wearing Michelin PS2s. Just about a toss-up between those and the new PZeros, with Rossos slightly behind due to shorter tread life.

If I were starting from scratch with 4 new tires, I would probably go with the PS2s, but only a personal opinion. Most of us get uneven wear front and rear, and are stuck with buying two more of the same type originally fitted because we do not like mixing tire manufacturers front and rear.

Has anyone tried Nitto tires on their Ferrari? I have a set on my Audi TT and I like really them. When my Pirelli finally go, I am probably going to get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - 235 front and 275 rear.

When I purchased my 355 it needed new tires to be driveable. After countless hours of research I decided against the PS2s and tried a new tire that was highly rated on Tire Rack by all of the 5 reviewers (The tire was a new design).

I have put 6500 miles on my 355 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics I purchased softened the road noise ten-fold and the ride is so smooth--shocking for a race car, right?

Here's the best part...they still have tons of tread left. They were about the same price as the PS2s but they also handle better in the wet. And I live in Oregon and, like Florida, the rain can come out of nowhere.

Give them a minute of your time during your research. I ended up buying them from the Tire Rack, too.

    :)

Wow, they're way cheaper than PS2s on Tirerack.com right now. I will definitely check these out when it comes time (I have PS2s now).

Just remember the "assymetric" part. I didn't like the reviews of the directional GS-D3s. :)

Has anyone tried the Kumho Ecsta SPT? I currently have Kumho Ecsta's on my 3 series and have had Kumho's on other cars. Past and present experiences have been great - noise, ride and wear all great.

Lots of good feedback here although some recommendations do not come in the stock 17" size unfortunately.

I currently have the PZeros on the car and like others, I have an issue with the poor wear with the brand and have a similar opinion with respect to Goodyear - well known brand, but it seems you pay for the name.

Does anyone have a source or contact info for AVON tires in the US. I've heard great things about them, but haven't found an outlet here for them.

Thanks to all and keep it coming.

I checked out the Goodyear F1's and almost all of the sizes are NOT Z rated for speed. Hence the cheaper price. Here is an explanation of these very important speed ratings:

Beginning in 1991, the speed symbol denoting a fixed maximum speed capability of new tires must be shown only in the speed rating portion of the tire's service description, such as 225/50R16 89S. The most common tire speed rating symbols, maximum speeds and typical applications are shown below:

    L 75 mph 120 km/h Off-Road & Light Truck Tires
    M 81 mph 130 km/h
    N 87 mph 140km/h Temporary Spare Tires
    P 93 mph 150 km/h
    Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires
    R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires
    S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
    T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans
    U 124 mph 200 km/h
    H 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes
    V 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

    W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
    Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

    225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
    205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
    285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:

    285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
    285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

I have run T1R's on my performance cars before, I have always really liked them, great tyre IME. I also ran Toyo RA1's on my race car which also impressed me.

What size T1R's do you have on the 355?

    I run 295/35/18 R 235/40/18 F. I have RA1's for the M3 on the track.
Seriously guys, these are great tires for handling, wear, and comfort and cost far less thank the PS2's.
Also remember, that tires, regardless of mileage/wear are dead after 3 maybe 4 years max depending on storage conditions and climate. Rubber gets hard.

i feel that your idea of the kumho SPT is a good idea if you dont drive hard and want mileage. i think the tread wear is like 400! hard compound equals less grip.

try to stick in the 200 to 300 treadwear for a good grip to wear compromise. AA traction Z or W rated
