Engine is and the total rebuild is begun. I received my Larini system today from Ricambi. Daniel really came through on this one. John Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, Beautiful.... Did you get pics of the engine (at start) of your rebuild? Cant wait to see that exhaust on. Good Luck, John.
They won't go on for at least 6-8 weeks. I have to order pistons, rods, send the cams off for regrind, etc. You can go to the Larini site and look for the Ferrari 328 video. http://www.larinisystems.com/video.php John
Is your car a Euro? The reason I ask is that I have a Larini on my U.S. spec 328 and I don't see the headers as being available for any 308 or 328 U.S. variant. More fun pursuant to U.S. living...
In some states if your car is 20 or more years old, it doesn't have to have an emission inspection. If that's the case, you could convert the exhaust to the euro spec. Personally it's way out of line price wise vs bang for the buck - I'd be surprised if you got 10 HP but certainly it's doable depending on your state and the registration status of the car - normal, "antique/classic", whatever. In MD, for example, where my 328 is located, the above would be perfectly OK once the car is registered as "historic." Of course, that also means that it is not supposed to be used for daily driving. Although my 328 was eligible for historic last year, I prefer keeping it as a normal registered car which means it does have to be emission-inspected. HOWEVER, they don't actually inspect it because it's too low to fit on the dyno. So they don't even open the hood, they just issue a "pass" certificate for it.
It is a Euro version, zero pollution equipment. Around here (Texas) it needs to only pass a safety inspection since it is older than 25 years. John
What's the diff. between the stock headers and the Larini headers? Are the pipes diameter bigger on the Larini?
I would need to measure, but I've put the stock away. Doesn't really matter though, the originals had been repaired once and were pretty rusty. Rather than fix the repair again, bead blast and then ceramic coat, I decided to go all stainless. Considering the stock FI is gone the headers will be prominent. John
I have to admit that even though I've tended to bash aftermarket exhausts as too loud and too expensive for nothing gained, I'm thinking of installing a Larini on my 328 and then would like to find/have made a panel that would replace the rear grill with something that would tastefully show off the Larini. Did the Euro version use the same grill as the US version?
Actually, Mike, the Larini shows through the grills quite nicely ;-) And thanks for the insights Unfortuately, pursuant to smogging and such, I'm in CA; need I say more?? Cordially, Scott
The US-spec exhaust has both headers feeding into a single tube (Collection Pipe), which then feeds into a single Cat, which then feeds into the factory exhaust with a single input. Check the Larini again - TWO inputs, so somebody is going to have to do some 'extra' plumbing to get this thing to fit......If those smaller pipes can plumb directly from the headers to the Exhaust can, then you're all-set.
I think you should read the whole post. The car is an 83 Euro and the stock exhaust do not feed into a single input on a euro car. John
Sorry to resurrect a decade old thread - but I wanted to confirm - it's possible (easily) to convert the US exhaust to a complete euro system - all the mounting points are the same, or does it require fabrication to add/modify mounting points?
