If you are talking about the black plates with Chinese characters, yes these are for China.
The other types of plates you often see in photos here are the red 'trade plates' which are hung on the car temporarily.

Oh okay, thanks. So they're kind of like the dealer plates in the US.

Yes, except it is being abused severely by people to avoid paying 100% registration tax.

    DM:

I heard the shocking news from Ben at IMSS 2 days after the incident. I felt depressed for days. My condolences to Stephen's family. I don't know Steven personally, but by all accounts he's a true gentleman and super car enthusiast. I have been going to ZIC for over 10 years and crashed plenty of times there. This could have been anyone of us. So sad.

I only have second hand account of what happened, so I don't want to comment on liability in this particular incident. What I do know is that many Formula Geely drivers have no clue what they are doing and should NOT be on track at all. They must take some professional tuition before putting themselves and others at risk. The speed difference between a Formula Renault and a Formula Geely is huge.

When the slower driver doesn't use his mirrors and just wander across racing line blindly, tragedy will happen. I have had a number of close calls at ZIC and got squeezed off to the grass by these type of morons at 200kph, but luckily saved the car and avoided major shunts. So now my SOP is always assume they will cut me off and leave myself enough room to maneuver.

ZIC makes you sign indemnity forms so it might be difficult to sue the track. A civil litigation against the other driver is probably in order, but now is the time for grieving not law suits.

In a race type of situation if slow driver is at fault, then either license suspension or incident comment endorsed on the license of the party at fault I imagine.

I have not checked this thread in a long while. Sheesh... there are way more cars in HK than what I normally see.

I guess I should get out more.

Same. I ride motorcycles and you learn early to assume that you are invisible and everyone will try to kill you.

My approach to the Geeleys is to only pass at exit of corner. They can see you underbraking and thru corner and it is so easy to out accelerate. I will not pass a car driven by a novice when I am going 100kph faster - I am not that much of an optimist

From Facebook "In Loving Memory of Stephen Fan". Stephen and I raced together at ART. I knew him very well and miss him badly. Smiling wearing a Ferrari t-shirt - I am sure that is how he would like to be remembered. I post these pictures out of the deepest respect for Stephen and his family and I am sure that many of you will recognise him if you did not know his name. Goodbye Stephen

A lovely and fitting send off for Stephen Fan. I didn't know the man, but if a picture speaks a thousand words then I'm convinced he must have been a thoroughly decent chap.

Yes, you're right. There's some real talent among the people in this thread. I actually plumped for a new camera yesterday and have been tinkering around with it. I will post up some pictures when I have something suitable for the thread.

I wouldn't assume people can see you under braking. I have patiently followed people for 2 laps and they still claim to have no idea I was on their tail and that they are holding me up.

Everyone has their own speed. I have no problem with that. Not using the mirrors is just plain too dangerous.

Triple black C63 estate is the business. I had a triple black E55 estate and regretted selling that car massively

Ah, I love the E55. Was it the W210? I often see one around CWB with blacked out windows. Very rare cars indeed.

I came across a picture of a '73 Cuda on the interweb and am pretty sure that it's a Hong Kong car. Here's the pic:

Background, license plate and RHD conversion all fit. Does anyone know it or has seen it around?

Yes, Haiphong Rd. Thanks for the info. Actually the chap driving didn't look to pleased to see me taking photos of it, but probably he was concentrating on the driving. If he did see me he would have seen a guy with a massive smile on his face. It really made my day. The first I've ever seen in real life. Much lower than I ever thought and the engine was giving of quite a throaty burble. any idea what he's got under there?

Sorry, I didn't mean he was annoyed with me, only that I was hoping for a wink or a smile so I could let him know how much I appreciated his car. Hah!
