I find the butt in first method works best because it allows up to sit down and clap my feet together to release any debris in the soles of my shoes. This helps extend the life of my carpets. Then, I'll slide one leg in at a time and I'm careful about where I maneuver my feets as to not rub against any body work.

Nearly 60,000 miles on my 355 and no problems with my interior because of it.

Whenever I try butt-first I feel like I'm going to fall, usually go one foot first, then sit and then the other foot.

Butt first, do a 90 degree pivot while sliding right leg up 'n under the wheel... what amazes me is my buddy who can jump in and out of his Elise (with top on) like it's nothin!!

I do the same thing. One foot and hand on wheel, then arse, then other foot. Then lift my ass off the seat to twist so as to not screw up my new leather seats :D

It is quite awkward getting into a passenger seat though, you don't have the wheel to brace yourself with.

    Like this.

On a side note, with classic cars one of the reasons I hear why their owner's part with them is they can't get into them anymore.

V8's Butt. V12's Right foot first. As I get older the 12 is just a better fit!

I feel like an oaf unless I go butt first. I've wondered if it was just an age and bad back issue that made it hard to go foot first. I suspect younger guys are more inclined to go foot first.

right leg in foot well, left hand on rocker sill, left foot in while supporting torso with left hand. Lower but into seat.

Don't want to ding the door, pull on the steering wheel, slide across the bolster or pivot in the seat.

exactly - but you spelled 'butt' wrong. i try to tell folks this is how to gracefully get into a low car (my 308), but (one 't' here), no one seems to get it or care..

    fun thread..

Foot, butt, foot, except on the very tightest cars like the Lotus Elise. Then it's butt first or I have no prayer of getting in (I'm 6' 3" tall).

The more you can prop yourself up and drop into the seat the easier it is on the leather bolsters, seat area etc. That's if you care about that?

On an E-Type - with its wide sills - you really should go butt first or you'll flop and trip like an idiot.

Now, I am short and somewhat uncoordinated, so maybe that's part of it. However, on my E-Type, I need to have the seat forward, and the wheel is huge. Combine the high sills and you find that butt first is most elegant.
