I´ve been into italian cars for many years, owned some, sold some and missing some but ...... never owned a 355. I regard the 355 as the most beautiful of modern Ferraris and I cant stop my self anymore. Guys, what are the main traps and the main faults ? my intrest is late a late car -98-99-2000, preferably an F1 and to ease the reaction at home.... a spyder The one i am looking at for the moment is black/tan F1 1998, seems to be OK, correct background, "dependable" dealer ... but this one is rather expensive so a think I walk away All advise is appriciated With best regards Ulf Rickard Sweden
355s are very popular which is why there are many buying guides on here if you look - try also www.the355.com
Ulf, if you want a good car, investigate the 355's for sale by members of this forum......just a suggestion.
That actually depends on how model year is calculated. In Sweden a car registered after June/July in 1999 was registered as a model 2000 ;-) My 355 was made in November 1999 and hence is a model 2000 according to the papers... Today it is regulated by EU and we now talk about production date, not model year. Maybe worthless knowledge but I couldn't resist ;-)
You can use the "search" feature here to look up hundreds of topics on the 355. Here is one from last week: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274978
+355 Remember, no such thing as a cheap Ferrari, pay now or pay later, but rest assured, you will pay.
LOL!! It is true though, if you buy a Ferrari for a cheap price the chances are it will have deferred maintenance that when added to the purchase price will equal the cost of a nice well sorted car. Once sorted, these cars are reliable, but getting a poorly maintained car to be reliable can be a costly venture.
This is exactly what happened to me. I bought my 355 just before Christmas and it has been in the shop almost as much as my garage. About $21K later (including a major) it does seem that I am getting it sorted out. James has summed it up very well and I would listen very closely to him. A well sorted 355 especially one that has had headers done and a good aftermarket exhaust is a plus. Having said the above, I am still blown away every time I drive my 355. I love mine and still have not seen one I would rather have. It is hard to describe how amazing these cars really are. Just amazing Get one if at all possible. I would seriously consider one listed on this site if it is what you are looking for. Even some of the "more expensive" 355 listed on this site will be money in the bank compared to sorting one out.
Thank You all for advise and other aspect on 355 ownership I´ve looked into all treads availible on F-chat and think I am prepered for a buy I keep F-chat informed With kind regards Ulf Rickard Sweden
