I may have to look at some sashes/chaircover type things on Thursday, but after that I should be free for most of the day!! Thursday is looking good. Who's up for GTO and perhaps a few other places?
Right... I'm free from now until about 5pm. The wedding cake is now sorted. Just about to hit the phones... All the best, Andrew.
Just got back from a quick 1 hour visit to GTO with Andrew. Will post pics later. Normal sort of stuff there. Cali Spyder SWB, TDF single vent, 275, Lusso, Queen Mary, Daytona, and a very nice Cisitalia.
No worries Sy. Thanks again for meeting up today Francis, I had a great time! I'm now redefining what's "normal" on almost a daily basis. What a great trip it's been! All the best, Andrew.
Well, I'm safely back in Glasgow but haven't been online much as I have a bit of catching up to do with thesis work. I've got some great pictures of my Ferrari day trips and will post them up as soon as I get a moment to pull them off my camera (probably Wednesday evening or afterwards). All the best, Andrew.
Right... I'm in the process of uploading pics. Sorry it took so long, I had to pull them off the camera individually and I was also trying to obliterate any license plate numbers before posting them online - I think I've got them all done now (hope I haven't missed any). First Ferrari Day saw a visit to Maranello, then QV London (including a sit in, then a ride out in, Sy's Ferrari 348), and then the second Ferrari Day saw a GTO Engineering visit a few days later. Pics to follow... All the best, Andrew.
Here are the pics from Maranello... and, yes, the dorky-looking guy in the soviet-looking overcoat (in my defence, it keeps me warm) next to the Ferrari Enzo is yours truly. The pics from QV London. Mark kindly lifted the cover on his GT4 so I could get a few pictures, and the ecstatic chap enjoying a sit in the driver's seat of Sy's 348 is... ME! A few days later, Francis and I went to GTO Engineering - some great cars in a very interesting location (tucked away in a renovated barn). Yep, plenty of reasons to be looking happy there! Thanks Francis!! I'd run out of space on my camera so asked if Francis would take a picture of me with the Daytona on his camera and post it up.
Thanks Mark, and thanks for arranging the Maranello visit! In retrospect I should have remembered to get a group photo of the FChatters together when we were all at QV London, but that just gives us an excuse to attempt to arrange another group gathering next time I'm in the area. All the best, Andrew.
I still can't believe that's the first one you'd seen in the flesh :-o We need to get you properly sorted - if you're still allowed fun time after your wedding Silverstone Classic, Festival of Speed, Revival - something like that!
Actually, there were a lot of firsts during that trip! First 275, first Daytona, first Dino, first Enzo, first F40 - lots of firsts! Sounds great! Speaking of getting me properly sorted, could you remind/educate me again on what the Ferrari we stood next to chatting was (GTO Engineering, images 6-9)? I really liked the look of that, but have gotten a bit confused as to what exactly it was... some form of 250?
Andy It's a 250TDF single louvre from the late 50s. The proper name is 250GT Berlinetta Tour de France (also sometimes with LWB - long wheel base - inserted, but only after the SWB was launched in 59). TDF stands for Tour de France as one of the first of this model won the Tour de France in 56. This model was produced from 1956 to 1959 and this one is a late one. The number of louvres in the rear sail panel denotes where they come in the production cycle. The car that won the TDF actually had no louvres, then came 14 louvres, then 3 then the single one you saw. Build nos as follows: No louvre - 14 14 louvre - 9 3 louvres - 3 Single louvre - 37 So now you're an expert
