I'm in a position where financially I could purchase a used Gallardo (RoyToy's Yellow '04 I think is speaking to me at night...)

But... I can't quite pull the trigger.

My situation is Well Off Boston suburb, kids in middle school, still work for a company to pay the bills.

As such I am very interested in the thoughts and situations of 1st time owners (or long time owners thinking back to those days).

Do you own your own businesses, retired, still working for the man (but never take it to the office)?

Kids - still in school or long gone?

And in the 1st year of ownership did your thoughts and attitudes change about the whole situation?

I realize a bit philosophical for a sports car forum, but there you go.

I over think and procrastinate these decisions with the best of em...so, maybe I can offer a hand in your decision.

    Buy it.

If its not for you..or your mindset or situation changes...sell it. Big deal. At least you did it.

Here is the flip side of buying something like a Lambo.
Obviously, its your dream. You only live once. You kids will love you for it. Yes you will get **** from people who are jealous. Neighbors with kids etc.

You will feel more empowered at work...at home...as a dad...a husband etc because you did it. You followed through on a life long dream. You become the example. Going forward your kids will remember that Dad bought a Lambo...indirectly giving them permission to step outside of the box...and excel to higher levels. You would set the bar higher.

With all of this being said. Have no debt (maybe a house). Have 6-12 months worth of financial reserves. With kids, have something going for their school. Otherwise, you will get **** from the wife (probably) and guilt.

Hope all of this helps. (just bought my first Lambo...btw)

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

    here's my $20.00 ( It's a Lambo after all )

I have a 1997.5 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster and a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa. I drive both as absolute daily drivers....work, bank, groceries, pick up chicks.

If your finances are in order ( only you can answer that ) you have to go for things in life. There are always a million reasons why you shouldn't do something. Most people will also tell you why you SHOULDN'T do something.

I own my own company and I'm an important player in my niche market. I took the risk and made it happen.....same thing for the personal things in life.

Sometimes, you have to jump in with both feet and just take a chance. Sure, you can play it safe and just have regrets. No, there's never the "right" time to buy...you'll always have a reason to say....maybe later. Later turns into never....then it's "why didn't I do it? "

If the car's not for you....just sell it. OK, so you lose a few bucks....big deal....you did it. It's not like you're buying a company. You treaded where most only dream. This is what separates the talkers from the doers.

    Now, I do question the G....go for broke....go Diablo ! :D

Now, just don't blame me if you get very popular with the "short skirts"

    ....cause,

"When the doors go up.....the panties go down"

    ....can't say that with a G

Opps.....I guess your wife just chose your car. :D

The new Ferraris and Lambos are very reliable. The older cars are not as good plus they have some expensive maintence requirements. Before you buy one of these cars you may want to talk to a tech guy. Find out the cost of belt change, full fluids etc.

When I was working I choose to go BMW M3 or Porsche 911. They are great cars and very reliable. Yhey are also great drivers cars and hold their value okay.

If you want a weekend toy you may look at a Lotus Elise. They are a blast to drive, great gas milage, stunning looks and not very expensive to buy. They also have supercar handling. The power is a little low, but the weight is very light also. So do not let the low hp ratings scare you off. Drive one and then decide.

    Good luck whatever you buy.

The Gallardo is a great car. IMO it is reliable and a fun ride. IMHO, don't wait. I am in a situation where I have one kid in college and another going next year. So, my financial situation is a bit in limbo as I have no idea what my expenses are going to be. So, I must wait. My point is that there will always be a $$ drain from the kids, you just need to look forward and plan accordingly.

Roy would be a great person to buy from if you decide to pull the trigger.

.................................................................................................................................. It sounds like your trying to talk him out of buying a Lamborghini, and i can read between the lines, your trying to look out for him, I too had Porsches ,911 widebodys, 928 `s , older Bentley turbos, Lotus Turbos, all very nice, felt good to drive , put a smile on my face, But what some people do not realize is that when you get a Lamborghini its like a very special car ....get ready... X 100 .. there is no better feeling than seeing one , Oh yes there is , Having one , Do It !

    Well maybe, maybe not.

I just was concerned about buying an old Lambo and getting caught with weallet thinning costs. If he buys a new or recent one they are better to maintain. The other cars which may not have quite the eye pop are very good sport cars. Just pointing out alternatives.

They are special cars I love my 560-4 lambo but I also like the German cars I noted. No in between the lines needed. I said what I felt.

I have not owned a bentley at least yet. Did you like it and was it good to you?

    Lee :)

...........................................................................................................................I agree Lee , The older cars could thin out the wallet, you have a point , For me its so different to have a Lamborghini,I really cannot put it to words. since you have 560-4 , I don`t have to tell you , I had a 1989 Bentley turbo , I liked it alot, but it was wierd owning it , people would hold doors for me and stuff , let me go first, that sort of stuff, heck it only cost 16k , compared to my Ferrari GT4 that people would give me dirty looks or scream at the top of thier lungs at it , but never ever hold the door, just let it slam .Lamborghinis make people smile , Oh , the old Bentley ran great, handled good and was my daily driver for a year or more. I would buy another ., after the Diablo is finished that is .

You should go for it, but like Shamile said "if your finances are in order". Im 31 businesses owner, no wife or kids yet. I bought a Murci this past July and I regret not doing it sooner. Ive had several nice cars but NOTHING is like a Lamborghini (no offense to any other cars)

I think a good, clean no stories Gallardo would be fast, fun and reliable. If the extra cash (for service) is there then the Diablo would grab more attention, if thats what you are after. Plus you can never go wrong dealing with Roy

After all, like a couple guys in here already said, you can always sell it. Its better to try it and see if you like it rather then never knowing.
