F-man, again, very impressive stuff and thanks for the updates.

Would you be kind enough to briefly discuss what kind of a job it is to remove the soft top mechanism? Also can you discuss why it was impossible for you -- or not advisable -- to produce a hard top that would fit directly over the collapsed soft top?

The soft top is removed by 6 bolts that bolt the soft top to the frame of the car (these are used for the rollbar mounting if desired). Then the screw type bolts are to be removed around the perimeter.
You'll need about 1 hour max to complete that task.
The main reasons for not making a roof which will fit over the soft top while in place is two fold. A. you would not be able to fasten at the rear unless you drilled into the car, (unacceptable).
    B. the finished product would look nothing like what we would desire. It would be a deformed version of the original where this one is virtually exact.

Thank you for these very useful answers.

Does anyone else object now to the idea that the soft top must be removed in order to take advantage of this hard top design?

If it is something I can do myself without harming the car or soft top, and/or the mechanism, and/or create an impossible task to put back the soft top, I am IN and I WANT ONE!!!

However, I am waiting anxiously to see pictures of the painted hard top installed, because I'm not sure how the cap fits under it, and I also want to see how it attaches to the car securely without marring the paint.

Dave, don't worry. You and our other 355 brothers will be crying like in the heineken commercial... just like I did.

Any thoughts about making a cap like this that would fit over the soft top?

I think it would greatly update the looks of the 355 with the top down. The only issue is if you decide to put the top up once you're out on the road but I think we could plan/manage around that.

A complete re-paint on a beautiful Ferrari 355 spider like yours. Deserves for ALL the lights to be removed for a thorough job, brings a tear to my eyes:( I hope he has removed the front grill at least.

The car had been painted just before the accident which it had been taken right down. It is Black going again to black so I decided to go the quick route this time.

No, can't tell the difference other than the wheels. Is the top permanent or removable?

The bottom one is the GTB Spider, right? The rear side window is different. Looks very nice though!

100% removable hardtop. Stay tuned for more pictures. We've been working on this for 8+ months. Read entire thread. It's an intersting journey.

Correct. Our rear side window is not as exposed at the top as the original Berlinetta is. (No wind noise on the GTB Spider)

It slants a couple of degrees, it is almost identical to the Berlinetta. Looks absolutely amazing. Looks stock.
