I have a door release handle that is also suffering from the sticky-gooeys. On this, the rubberized coating is applied to a metal surface. So, apparently it is the coating itself that deteriorates ? Whatever the cause, it is obviously widespread and unacceptable.

My wife's 2002 MB CLK convertible has the same thing on the buttons on the steering wheel. $450 to replace two buttons, and the dealer says they have done it before for the same issue.

My stuff from MA Carbon ships next week. Combined with the stuff Robbie refinished, I will be almost sticky no more for good. Last items will be the door handles.

I should mention that if you disassemble your switches be extremely careful to note how the springs and detent mechanisms go together- not for the faint of heart -I found this to be a "triple back flip with two twists"... Very time consuming and frustrating to get it back properly.

I would definitely recommend StickyNoMore unless you really want to get into it.

Also on my car- it was everything, door handles, hood release, glove box switch, ignition switch, everything that was black basically.

Sheehan in Sports Car Market divides Ferrari into three eras: Enzo, Fiat, and Montezemolo. Perhaps they should be divided into sticky and non-sticky.

Not meaning to put down sticky Ferrari enthusuasts here. Just frustrated that Ferrari could consistently and without correction put out such nasty bits in an otherwise superb product.

Firstly, I agree with the majority here - It shouldn't happen with such a supposedly high quality product. Or at least if it does, it should be fixed FOC. [IMHO]

    Having said that:

    - We now know it's not "Armorall" (or any "protectant" we apply) related.
    - It's not UV related.
    - It happens to other marques.
    - It doesn't happen "consistently" - There's not an "age" or a VIN where something changed and it got better/worse it seems (?)

I'm starting to wonder what percentage of cars (and/or new parts - You've gotta feel for Daniel!) have the problem? 1%, 20%, 50%?..... I dunno....

For sure, "everyone" with the problem is gonna post about it - I'd bet there's a few people joined here as a result of researching the problem, and maybe that "weights" the results unfairly?

I certainly don't personally have the problem. ["Which is nice" ;)]

    Cheers,
    Ian

For sure we are lucky to have Stickynomore as part of Fchat so we can send him our stuff if we need to...

It is piss poor of Ferrari, especially for Daniel and the stuff still in the bag......that blows my mind. What a bunch of crap.

Anyway, Robbie does a great job (I can personally attest, he even did my "old" 308QV metal ashtray (he did tell me it was a PITA, but it came out looking fanfreakingtastic)), so give him a try if you need something sticky fixed, he is the man.

Ditto on the kudos for Robbie and Stickynomore. Just got my 550 switches back and they are fantastic. Very quick turnaround, too. Dropped them off at the post office, and I swear that they were done and back to me by the time I drove home. Maybe not THAT fast, but only a few days total turn around time.

No sticky problems with the 328,but the metal ashtray needed refinishing factory used very fragile paint.

With which model did the sticky problem begin? I know no problems with the early models (Boxers, etc.). The 328s were still imune? Has the problem been fixed with the current models?

I was under the impression that the sticky problem began with the 348? I could be wrong though.

    That was my impression, too.

However, as a 308 owner, I can attest to the fact that the paint on the ashtray is so poor that you can practically rub it off with your thumb. No sticky switches, though :).

Sticky problems did start with the 348, however the 308 and 328 paint on the ashtray lids and other parts tends to flake off or become chipped, scratched over time.... I refinished Rocco and Matt's ashtray lids on their 308/328 cars.... No stickiness, just flaked off nasty finish....

I'd say it's age related, cause I've been getting a bit sticky lately myself!

I dont think detailing products such as Armor All can be completely ruled out.

On my 88 Mercedes 300E, I am in the process of repainting the gauge cluster surround for this very reason. And in the past I had used Armor All on it. Compare this to a recent parts car of the same year I pulled the cluster out of that had not been maintained as well and the gauge cluster surround was fine.

So while certain cases might be inherent to the materials involved, at least in my case I think there is evidence that the use of silicone based detailers accelerated the deterioration issue.

Perhaps something that doesnt have the silicone "shine" effect would avoid these issues like Griots products?

At any rate, I think the consent is to avoid Armor All products in general

A sample size of two cars does not make for much of a statistical analysis. ;)

I would agree that it is not the cause, but does add to or accelerate the problems.... Based on me doing over 1000 interior parts....

Not just the paint. The labels are junk. Don't wash them too hard or the ink comes right off. Thank goodness for Unobtainum Supply.
