Matts shop is not at the airport. About 10 min away. Hold on....the 190 will show up there in a few weeks for final assy and flight testing. Will be at Steve Hintons Fighter Rebuilders in the museum off of Merril av. Just found out that this machine will indeed have a P&W R2800 eng. Gonna be a fastie.

He would rather not be bothered at the shop...thats why he located other than the airport. Too many lookyloos and drop ins. Hold on for a few weeks.

Would you like to fly 400 mph and pull 5g's in an airplane built by people leading tours or someone who can keep their mind on the job?

I am sure if you pay attention there will be a chance to see it, be patient.

Great thread so far....I, like everyone, else can't wait to see this airplane finished. I have always admired the lines of both the FW-190 and Bf-109. Does anyone know what the consensus was from folks who got to fly both as to which was the better design? I would love to hear these airplanes compared and contrasted by some of the knowledgeable folks here.

From all the analysis and pilot reports that I have read, they considered the FW-190 a superior airplane in almost every respect. It could carry more weaponry, had better flying qualities, easy to maintain. But one must remember that the ME-109 was designed in 1934 for an 800 HP engine and it was a minimal point designed machine to carry a couple of machine guns into a dog fight. It was a small, light, and not very pleasant to fly but it was " a form follows function " kind of thing...like a meat cleaver. It got the job done and it was designed for simple mass production and it was capable in the right hands. However, the silly landing gear design caused the deaths of something like 1350 pilots in landing accidents during training. Willy Messerschmit didn't want to put any camber in the landing gear axels because it would require a bump in the wings when retracted.

Chuck Yeager offered a similar opinion. He said basically that the 190 and p-51 were pretty much equals.

Well gentlemen I made it, I stopped by the Planes of Fame and talked to the girls in the front office, I told them I was a friend of Sparky's kid and asked where the FW was being done, they couldn't help me but one of the guys from the back was in the office and said he new where it was, so off I went, I got to the FW just as they were doing gear swings, I told them I was a freind of Sparkys kid and he said I should come by and see it, they let me come in and showed me around, the guy that owns runs thwe shop wasn't around so I snapped a couple of picture, fantastic airplane. They said it should be at the Chino air show but other than that they didn't know when it would be at the airport. Here is a picture of a 2800 in a FW190.
just remember it's not who you know, it's who you say you know

    Classy

You were told specifically that they did not want "lookyloos and drop ins" and that you'd have to "wait a few weeks". So what did you do instead of be a decent understanding person? You got yourself in by fraudulently representing yourself. I believe you owe Sparky an apoligy.

Sparky, you talk about a FW-190 "kit". Is it a new manufactured kit that is purchased as such? It sure looks like it.

Yep. All new except the tail wheel setup. They found 10 original units in some obsure warehouse and are using those. I understand that only 10 new airframes were mfgd but dont quote me on that.

This is who makes the FW 190 kits http://www.flugwerk.de/

According to the website they made 20 kits, 16 are in the hands of clients , 2 are still available and 2 are kept as spare parts backup.

They also do P51's, and that part of the website is in English ?

What a tough crowd, you guys must be the shoot first listen last gang, FYI since the first stop at the FW I have been able to stop by for numerous visits and get lots of pictures, the owner of the shop hasn't been around because I heard he was back in Illinios getting the Frasca Spitfire ready for Reno, I over heard them say that the Spit is going to race along with the FW don't know whose going to race the Spit but I think they said some farmer from Illinios named Big Foot is going to race the FW, think he used to own Sparky, not sure but they have a nice set of mustang drop tanks they found at the Bonanza Ranch by Tahoe
