Anyone know what happened to this car? My brother just forwarded me this URL and said a friend of his was looking at it (I didn't even realize it was up here in Seattle!!). However, it was sold..... not sure where it went?

There are some strange issues with this car.

Its a very early chassisnumber for a FRUA-Spyder - but the photos clearly show a Series II body!

Nothing that affects the value and provenance of the car.

I assume that the car was rebodied when in Italy in the late 50ies. Perhaps after a crash?

Walter, the body is Series III, VIN seemed to be Series II.

...what do you mean? #2110 was not a Frua Spyder!

Was it a Frua coupe then? I was only reading the Richard Crump and Rob de la Rive Box book.

    Best regards!

Walter, check your numbers. #2110 was one of the earliest Frua spiders, has a special A6GCS engine and now lives in Texas. My soul would be available in trade for this car.

    Don,
yes, but it was NOT an A6G-2000! #2110 was an A6GCS. Different chassis & engine!

    Magnus,
#2110 was based on an A6GCS chassis und used the geardriven engine of that type. And yes, it was a FRUA-Syder but not an A6G. Perhaps my previois post was a little confusing.

    Ciao!

    Hi,

as you interested guys may know I own engine #2104 since 2007 as I bought it from a reknown source for my beautiful Coupe #2181.

Would be really nice to see car & engine re-united some day in my hands, would be a real pitty to see car & engine disparted another 40 years ;-)

    All the best,

    Volkmar Spielmann

For us not so subtle normalos: does that mean the future owner of #2104 will bang his head against a brick wall if he intends to get the original engine?

    Regards

My favorite Maserati spyder. I cannot stand the blue color though! White looks perfect for this body

The blue color is non-original! Also the golden stripe is not the original specification!

Yes, its a very original car but the early VIN and the very late body-version makes it somewhat strange! I found the original engine in California and brokered it to the owner of #2181 here in Germany who is also a member of this forum.

    Ciao!

Don't you think the book by R. Crump and R. Box have the right Vins in the book Walter?

    Magnus,
of course did Crump/Rive Box list the VIN in their books correctly. I never doubted the existance of that car. But the early VIN doesn`t match the coachwork design. This body version #2104 has today came later. I stronly assume that the car was build in the version I-body but had been later rebodied, perhaps due to an accident.

Unfortunately a detailed history of this car in Rome with its 1st owner did not came to light so far.

    Ciao!

    Is #2104 a car made in 1957?

official buildsheet states Dec. 1954 as been delivered to FRUA. Back to the factory for completition in June 1956! That leaves a gap of 18 months!

But Maserati always updated their build-sheets. So it could be possible that the 1st. buildsheet was issued in Dec. `54 and the car came from FRUA in the 1st series coachwork and had been rebodied for whatever reasons in the later style in June `56. Then, the buildsheet was finally issued by Maserati.

However - we do not know the reason for this 18 months gap.

    Ciao!

Chassis should be delivered to Frua in Dec. 1954, came back to the factory in mid 1956 and was delivered to the first(?) owner July 1957, this date is the Foglio Montaggio. Three almost unknown years, indeed a strange story, but who knows... Last Frua which was delivered by the factory.

    Best,

    Volkmar
