finally saying good bye to my 360, great car. did have my share of issues at times with the 360 though. have been thinking about picking up a 430 vs audi r8 V10. sat in an r8 today and decided it would not compare to the experience i know the f car will give. however, i wanted to ask 430 owners, is the 430 better from the standpoint of reliability than the 360? what are the common issues that arrise in 05/06 430's?
Many things have already been written on this forum but to resume, my 430 manual is rock solid with no issues at all. All campaigns should be done though and especially those related to the manifolds which can leak and the broken exhaust brackets. There've been also a recall related to the manual gear box (mine has been entirely changed). Those having a F1 seem to have sometimes issues with the hydraulic pump but I'm not in this situation to give any real feedback about this. I've you want to cover yourself, try to get one with the Power warranty or better, the Power Cube (which is my case for the last year). Honestly, the F430 is bullet proof and this car, you can drive long distances having peace in your mind Enjoy the seek of the good ONE
i have an 06 manual spider and i agree with above. no issues so far. service expenses are cheaper as there is no belt services to be done. good luck
Bullet proof once all the campaigns are done. Service cost half that of a 360 and much better car IMO
it is a service issue that needs to be taken care of while under warranty. my 06 had about 6 or 7 that were completed before i bought it last year.
I've had an '05 3 pedal coupe since new, now with 17K miles. I had the exhaust manifolds done under warranty and a rear main seal leak which I'm told is very rare. No one else on Fchat has mentioned it. Overall it seems better engineered than moat models with easy on the wallet mainteance. The car seems like it is still continuing to get better with use. I've also put about 1K track miles on it with no issues other than worn brake pads and tires. Dave
One reason I ponied up for a 430 was the increased reliability and decreased maintenance(belts). I read a lot of threads on this subject and the consensus was that it was quite reliable. Bypass the R8 IMO.
Just turned 10K miles on my 06 430F1 and have never had a problem, just fluid changes so far. Never had a problem with my 99 360 either though! Had over 30K miles when I sold it. Had to do the belt service with a new clutch at 14K miles.
seems like the 360's and 430's are solid cars.. man I love them.. I really am impressed with ferrari and even lambo starting to make cars that are as reliable as a car should be.. this goes for the new AM and Maserati also though.. Nice to see
thank you. how do we know about this campaign? Does Ferrari send out mail (TSB) to inform the owners?
They are not like recalls. Dealers are notified and then perform the updates as cars come in for service or other reasons. Any dealer can run a VIN and see if there are any that have not been done. I believe they continue to do them free even after the waranty has run out. Dave
Perhaps Ferrari is different, but I recently ran into this on another car and had been under the same assumption. Turns out camaigns are chargable items unless covered by warranty, where as recalls are covered by the manufacturer regardless of warranty. Before anyone claims I was fleeced, this was confirmed by a multi-franchise dealer friend of mine. Either way, your local dealer will be able to tell you about campaigns and recalls by running the VIN.
I have owned a 360 and now an F430. While the 360 was not a bad car it was expensive and once the dealer had to come get me. My F430 has been perfect and I have had it almost 3 years. These cars bnoth Lambos and Ferraris have gotten very reliable. They have to so they can survive. Oil change are still a bit pricy but most supercars are. Good luck Lee
I have an '05 F430 with about 14k miles on it. It has been cross country twice and tracked several times and for the most part rock solid. Other than routine maintenance and tires, had to replace the clutch at 11k miles and battery recently. Probably could have gotten more mileage out of the clutch but wasn't aware of a software issue which accelerated the need to replace. If it's not shifting or not going into reverse intermittently, take it in immediately. I have an SL 55 as my daily driver and I'll tell you straight up, the Ferrari is cheaper to maintain than that POS.
I drove my 06' 430 coupe F1 27K miles in 2 years.... It spent 75 days in the shop..... The engine had to be replaced....... F1 system failed twice........ Broken hose in engine bay, caused the car to fill with hot steam while I was driving it.... I could go on for DAYS!!!!!! The car was a friggin' LEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even after all that EASILY THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED.....I miss it everyday I was the EXCEPTION not the rule...I was VERY unlucky with my example, BUT I enjoyed the car so much that it took a series of horrible issues over a 3 week period that pushed me too far. I just had to get rid of that car..... I may actually get back into one soon.........but every time I look through my service records I pause. BTW, Ferrari of North America and I were in contact through my ownership experience. They were wonderful and took it seriously. I still speak to them once in a while and have great respect for the way they handled my situation. Ape
Ape, did FNA ever offer to buy back the car? I would think when you sold it you took a bigger hit due to all the "defects"
They facilitated the deal through a Ferrari Dealer.....It was bought at fair market value considering that the car had 27K miles on it when I sold it. In other words I LOST MY SHIRT!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! FNA, basically made me a deal I couldn't refuse. The details of which I can't divulge on an web forum.
Ape, everything sounds horrible you listed there except the cabin filling with steam, that sounds.. sexy.. When people drove by and saw the hot steam glistening off your ripped body, did you get a lot of ladies/west hollywood men giving you the eye?
I had campaign 291 (exhaust bracket reinforcement) done nearly a year after the warranty ran out. Perhaps there is an explanation. Needless to day, I never asked. Dave
