no front license plate in T.O...is it worth the hassle?

A number of years ago a car wash had taken the front plate and bracket off my boxster. I had made an appointment with a dealer to get it put back on.

I got stopped by the police and showed him the plate and assembly which was on the passenger seat with the receipt from the wash from the previous day or maybe a couple days earlier and told him i had the appointment to get the plate back on. I still got the $110 ticket.

I went to court with the letter from the dealer that it was reattached and when he saw proof I had the plate back on the judge made some comment how I satisfied my obligation to society or paid my debt to society or some comment which I thought was mocking but he was serious. He knocked the fine down to $80 or something like that.
