I need to add fluid to my 355 soft top reservoir. I've done a search and info here is not 100% clear. I have a liter of Pentosin CHF 202 which is a synthetic. It says it is compatible with Pentosin CHF 11 (Both are synthetic). It is NOT compatible with Pentosin CHF 7.1 which is mineral based. I've seen on this forum rec's to use ordinary hydraulic jack oil (which I assume is mineral based) and rec's to use "Pentosin" but no info on exactly which formula. Does anyone know the correct specs for the fluid to add to original? I don't want to mix incompatible fluids. thanks, Jordan
It does not appear to be particularly sensitive...as you can see, people are all over the place. The FNA dealers generally recommend using the stuff available at Mercedes dealers. I did some research and if I recall correctly, it was made by Pentosin, and synthetic. I ended up using Pentosin CHF 11s. I have used that for top ups the past several years, no problems. (a friend is the head tech at a lambo dealership, he said they use CHF 11s in the lambos, Bentleys, Jags, etc.) Correction! NOT made by Pentosin...made by Aral Vitamol: http://www.aral-lubricants.com/lubricants/com/automotive_lubricants/our_products/vitamol_zh-m.html
Have to be honest, Jordan, I'd probably feel safer flushing the system and adding all new fluid, to be safe. Just my 2cents; I don't own a 355 softop.
I had to add fluid to a 355 a few years ago, and the Ferrari dealer said to use the Mercedes stuff. You can buy it right from the Ferrari dealer for something like $60, or from Mercedes for about $20. The container is identical. - Steve
