Let's just hope it isn't to the detriment of the ultimate goal...finish a race and eventually fight for mid-pack.

    :D

They do seem to be courageously continuing Colins Legacy! [IIRC, he only put wing mirrors on the cars as he was forced to.... "Why should he be looking backwards?"..... ;)]

Good to see 'em as the "best of the crap!"......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I find it incredible that last year the difference between engine and caboose of the field was 1.4 seconds while it is 11.5 seconds  this year (taking FP2 times).

Senna must have the handbrake on during his runs ;)

I just hope we don't have a comedy circus like Indianapolis 2005 with gadzillion pit stops to replace the rubber

    Indeed.

I think however that they will "finish" - Probably way behind, but this is their first *test* - Poor buggers hadn't even turned a wheel until this morning!

Good luck to 'em! - They've done something the mighty BSF1/Chad Hurley couldn't!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Oh yeah...I'm pulling for the under dogs, just like Super Aguri a couple of seasons ago. Like you said, they are quite literally starting from scratch!

Yes, they (HRT) have accomplished something amazing in just 2 weeks. I am, however, concerned about safety, and as there is no 107% rule (althought Todt just said it might be brought back for 2011) I think the stewards need to have a long talk with everyone.

Interestingly enough there's this slow=safety issue/major concern by many in F1, whereas a similar situation to a greater degree is prevelant in the LM24h and other racing where you have a field of 55 cars and it's a given that the LMP1's will lap the GT2 in a handful of laps - no one makes a big issue of it there and the drivers respect the differences and drive accordingly.

Bruno has driven LMP1 for ORECA and has driven with much slower cars on the circuit and he's been on the podium - obviously a sign of competence otherwise he wouldn't have been there.

Perhaps the driver of most concern should be Trulli (I seen this discussed by commentators) - even with a fast car he was the engine on the train, how will he be as an engine and a caboose all in one.

Are the tauted F1 drivers not on par with the experienced drivers who can handle lap traffic which often times is running at a significant lower speed?? (exception is Schumi)

As previously mentioned, at least there will be passing (lapping) and it should not be a Sunday drive in the park as so many races were last year.

The problem stems back to cretin Max, he alone dictated what teams could enter and that was based on running a Cosworth engine, better quailfied teams Dave Richards and by the sound of it Stefan GP ect could and should have been in it, however this is the price we pay for letting this loose cannon stay in F1.
Also take in to account the threat of a breakaway series, if that had have happened both series would have ended up a pathetic joke...all thanks to Porno-Max.

The original 107 rule was because there were too many teams on the grid and they wanted a few stranglers out (Coloni for example).

Right now, F1 needs the show. Otherwise, it will look like the Indy race where Michelin pulled out.

So, there will be no 107 rule, no matter how slow the backfield will be.

Besides, watching Lotus shed it's parts during the race could be rather interesting --- along with Richard Branson's Pit babes!

Jean Todt is in favor of 107, but apparently the teams need to unanimously agree to bring it back for this season. Yea right. He does want to bring it back for 2011.

I don't see the big deal. LeMans deals with more cars and a greater differential. The best drivers in the world should be able to deal with a 5-6s gap.

The difference is that F1 is much tighter and margins are smaller, especially when qualifying is concerned. If an F1 car misses its window to put in a qualifying lap due to a slower car, he's basically done. I don't think that's the case with the other categories you mention.
Also in F1 all cars are in the same category and thus racing eachother. The slower cars don't need to go out of the way.

I wonder if the teams really know any more than we do at this point about tire wear etc.
Quali will be interesting but the race may be fascinating.

Hmm, if that's the case maybe there is a little hope for a podium for Schumacher this weekend!
