surely you're not referring to James Allen? Who fawned all over Schumacher, then gushed all over Hamilton... He always came across like a 12 year old girl going on about the latest pop star. great F1 blog but the most inept race commentator ever.

I was thinking about that and the tank can't not be big enough... the only question would be how hard can the driver run. Remember when they have safety cars they tell the driver to back off to conserve fuel, and Matchett has said that you get an extra race lap for every 2 (or maybe it was 3?) laps of taking it easy. So I would say the issue for Lotus wouldn't be if they have enough gas, but rather how long can they run hard with the gas they've got.

It's probably not going to end up being a major issue, because they will be at the back anyway, and unless they get into a handbag right with HRT or Virgin, I imagine they would have the luxury of easing off and being a couple seconds a lap slower, and nobody would notice :)

I think we are missing how backwards things are regarding qualifying. Common sense tells us they have qualifying in order to place the fastest cars/drivers right at the front. Here's the issue: These cars handle substantially differently with full and medium fuel loads. *Reality check* This just so happens to be how the majority of the race is ran. If we wanted to make sense out of qualifying, we would have cars qualify with their full fuel load or close to it.

While common sense would have to agree on this one we are dealing with the FIA after all. I honestly think that the qualifying on low fuel will allow the race to play out over the duration of the race as cars that handle better heavy or conserve tires heavy will mix up the order quite quickly.

Yes, even before we see it race:

The argument was that the aero of the car was flawed and it would not be fast. That concern has not been validated. Nor in qualifying no in testing.

Whether the car eats its tires or consumes too much fuel is a concern, but not the one raised early on.

Fortunately, I caught myself speculating on Ferrari's strategy tomorrow before I actually posted. ;)

F1 has surprised me repeatedly. I'm not alone.

That's why they actually run the races.

If we could predict the results, it'd all be done in the computer.

(And, based on web sites, USF1 wouldn't show up for that either. :p)

That's about as simple as you can state it. I don't think qualifying will have too much bearing on the results tomorrow. This thing feels like a crapshoot until there is a race under the belt.

+ friggin' one! Indeed. One of the big reasons I love it! [Anything with "style points" and judges - Not so much ;)]

That can't be right! :D The "experts" say that "modern" GP's are over before they've begun, there's no overtaking, it's boring, blah, blah!......

    Cheers,
    Ian
