Clearly we all have our own thoughts on these matters, but i thought with 20/25 laps to go Alonso had the race under control. There is no doubt inmy mind that even without Vettel's bad luck, Alonso would have passed him. Btw i dont think Massa would have passed Vettel.

MS coming back was a big mistake on his part, very ego driven a la Michael Jordan.

Alonso took the WDC from MS in 05 and 06 when MS was at top of his game. How does MS expect to keep up with Alonso, Massa, Hamilton and Vettel. With youth comes quicker reflex and stamina. Experience plays a part in those unique situations but for majority of season the younger quicker driver will prevail.

It's good for the sport but MS's going take a major ego hit.

Yes, ferrari's decision to halt F60 development and concentrate on this car now looks like a no-brainer; FA drove smoothly and intelligently and I think if vettel hadn't suffereed his problem it would have been very interesting in the final laps. Hammy claims he could have hung around FA if he hadn't gotten balked at the start by massa and then held up by rosberg.

Judging by the post race interview today, Schumacher just doesn't give a damn [something he learned from Kimi?]. He looked not only like a child that got a new toy, but like a child that doesn't care for the toys of the other kids. I had the impression that he was just happy to drive at all and would have had the same fun if he was in a Virgin...

(we should really thank Sir Branson for the endless opportunities his team offers to the lame joke aficionados ;))

Alonso said in the post race interview he still had some left in the tank. It would have been cool to see him overtake Vettel in a healthy car. I think that would have happened. I though it was a very entertaining race. More passing than I've seen in a while.

Not a bad start for the Scuderia! :)

Lots of "woulda, coulda, shoulda's" going on here, but a few things I noticed:

    - Fred's fastest lap was over 1.1 seconds faster than the 2nd fastest - By Sutil!
    - Lotus did a wonderful job! The other newbies, not so much......
    - The Cossie lump seemed perfectly adequate (at least in Sir Franks cars) - Good for them!

The new points system seems outrageous right now - *43* WCC points after round 1 - This is gonna take some getting used to!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Me too. I think Mercedes will be lucky to win 3 races or more this year, and I doubt if either driver will finish in the top 5 in points.

I think the cars will be even more important than the drivers this year, and see it as a battle between McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull.

The top 3 drivers seem to be Vittel, FA and Hammi....but luck plays a big part in F1. If Massa plays it smart and drivers in the same manner Prost usually did, he has a decent chance to win it all. Just one man's opinion...

Congrats to Ferrari. It's too bad about Vettel, but FA summed it up - it's only one race; but it's a great way to start the season :D

I think there are a few people that took my comments maybe slightly out of proportion but nevertheless we are all allowed our own opinions, I will say no more on the matter.

Race was as dull as dishwater - just an exercise in car & tyre management. There has always been an element of that , but now there is nothing but that. That's not racing.

As to Alonso's pace - I think he had fastest lap at about 1:58. Well over 3 seconds off the pole time so he was hardly stretching the thing.

They need to change the rules around re-fuelling urgently because otherwise its going to be dire to watch this procession every race.

    I'm pretty psyched right now.

The pesimist in me would say "Eight engines huh." But I'm not a pessimist. I'll enjoy the moment.

Enjoyed watching Ferrari rise to the top once again. But I too thought the race lacked excitement. The drama during the fuel stops does add to the race.

Snoozer. Look for the FIA to try to shake things up to avoid an F domination.

When the leader drops out of a race everyone benefit's, no ? Of course, the eventual winner benefits a tad bit more than the rest.

Well, to say that Alonso was "gifted" the win is a bit much really, now if Vettel would have made it as far as 2 or 3 laps from the win, then it would be a gift.

I wouldn't want to be the fabricator who built the header that failed !!!

Was looking for these earlier and said it would post them. Found them. The numbers are almost a litmus test on which car is better.

    fastest laps:

Michael Schumacher Mercedes 2′00.204 (after 3 years! wow)
Nico Rosberg Mercedes 2′00.236 (this is one of Nico's fav tracks)

    Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1′59.560
    Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 1′59.970

    Fernando Alonso Ferrari 1′58.287
    Felipe Massa Ferrari 1′59.732

    Adrian Sutil Force India-Mercedes 1′59.393
    Vitantonio Liuzzi Force India-Mercedes 1′59.906

    Mark Webber Red Bull-Renault 1′59.487
Sebastian Vettel Red Bull-Renault 2′00.218 (no doubt would have been fastest if exh had not died)

I would have preferred it had Ferrari not ordered Massa to hold station.

Get used to it. There'll be more of that.

I'm not even sure Massa had a problem. Maybe they were just pretending to hide the team order.

Early prediction is that Ferrari engines are going to have issues this season. Not as reliable as others.

Yeahh but Massa is their current No.1 driver... For now anyway. They wouldn't have told any of their No.1 drivers to hold station if they didn't have a problem or any other No.1 driver for that matter. Although that is what Ferrari usually do after the first round of pit stops anyway thinking about it actually. :)
