The Speed channel should be called the constant commercial channel. The telecast really sucks! I will not watch another live qualifying telecast for the rest of the year, total crap.

I'm trying VPN to get BBC Iplayer. So, joined overplay.net yesterday, $10/ month for a UK VPN. I was hoping to stream the race, but it's too slow for the picture to be any good, at least in the testing I did of other shows.

I think I'll download after with the BBC Iplayer and watch later in the day. It looks like it's going to take about 5.5 hours to download the race in HD. I'll report back, but it seems worth the $10 a month so far. I'd certainly pay more for a faster service if I was sure it'd work.

Jason, I went with VPN just yesterday too, but using StrongVPN. It's $55/yr and I'm getting 12/4 mb/s (up/down) to UK servers. So far it's been fantastic. Dunno if you saw this thread I made regarding it:

I agree with Carol, thanks to Speedcore, I went to FilmOn the last half of lst year. After being free last year, now they want to get paid. For $9.95/month, less if you subscribe for a year, it is still great.

Plus you can watch live TV from interesting places like Nigeria and Muwamba. Holy Cow!!

With the upgraded subscription you get all sorts of XXX rated channels.

BBCs F1 broadcast makes SpeedTVs rather boring, so I subscribed for the basic program just to watch F1.

Ron, so you get what we were watching last year for only $9.95 a month?? I wonder how it compares to VPN and which of the two would be better in my circumstance? Can you use the filmon one on different computers or does it only work with the paid subscription on one computer ip?? thanks - - - -I've gotten a bit tired having to reload filmon at the good parts of the event!!

    thanks,
    Carol

Yes, well at least for $9.95/month I can watch the F1 races on BBC1. AS I found out today, while in a hotel waiting for the race to start before I left for the Amelia Concours, FilmOn is only as good as the strength of the internet service.

Because I live in a condo, I use wired internet service on my wireless laptop. When I realized I could use my neighbor's wireless internet service, I figured there could be a security problem some day.

With my wired service, and with this subscription, I don't have to restart FilmOn as without the subscription. The picture will freeze only momentarily sometimes, but I figure that is the fact that my laptop is nearly topped out in memory, or that just after I signed up we had serious weather here in south Florida.

The picture also seemed much better.

At the hotel this morning with an only wireless option, I did have to keep restarting the FilmOn program. The hotel had a great plasma and SpeedTV, so since all I had time to watch was the start, I tuned in SpeedTV for the first two laps. I realized last night I might have a problem because when trying to connect to my mail on the internet, the home page was really strange and slow. Now that I am home, it is back to normal, so my conclusion of the strength of your internet service having an effect on FilmOn seems accurate.

I did not see anywhere that FilmOn was an automatic renewal, so it looks like after a month, I don't have to continue.

I hope that helps you Carol. I would still recommend the subscription. That or turn off the sound on SpeedTV and have a reason to leave the room during commercials.

overplay.net worked pretty well. I can't stream the race real time, but I downloaded the HD version afterwards. it took about 7 hours to download the whole thing, but then I could watch it in HD glory on my 120" screen.

Wow, BBC sure is something. I'd pay BBC a lot more if they would just let me join and watch.
