Schumacher's comments the day after the race - delighted

Exactly my point; Michael was the most succesful driver Ferrari has EVER had; yes Alonso beat him twice, no question.
For someone with as much Red Mist as you - why the hatred? You act like Schu is Peter Windsor!

I dont hate Schumacher, I just had more than enough of him. I was a big fan of his when nobody knew the young guy in a Jordan. And I wanted nothing more than him winning the title with Ferrari. I also was very happy when he got title #6 finally putting that old Fangio-has-5-titles adage to bed. But then I had enough. There was no need for title #7 and there is definitely no need for title #8.

In a perfect world we would have a grid of world champions. The more there are, the better. If one guy collects all the titles, wins, accolades it gets very boring fast.

For the record: I have a Schumacher full scale replica helmet signed by him in my collection on prominent display.

Why?

 

Schumacher set the bar high enough with 7. No other driver will ever achieve that. So there is no point in hoping Alonso would ever get there.

I like when drivers become WDC and I'm also happy when a really good one becomes a two times WDC prooving that it was no fluke. But I'm not crazy about two time WDCs going for another title because it robs another guy of the chance of becoming a WDC. Now in Alonso's case I'm making the exception because he drives for Ferrari. But after a title with Ferrari I'll have enough and be happy if somebody else wins the next crown.

So as far as WDCs go here is my prioritized wishlist:

1 WDC for Vettel
2 WDC for Alonso in the Ferrari
3 2nd WDC for Hamilton to proove the nay sayers wrong (I'm no Hami fan)
4 WDC for the Incredible Hulk
5 WDC for Vettel in the Ferrari
6 2nd WDC for Kimi in the Ferrari just to annoy everybody

This is why I can't get enough of Michael. I am sure there was no need for a 7th title, but he did the impossible and it wasn't a fluke. On top of it he stayed in F1 and tried for an 8th title. That just goes to show the guy is deteremined and really loves what he does. He does it for no other reason, he does it because he simply loves it. I am behind Michael 100 percent. Even he sucks this year, I still give him credit for trying. I think he will surprise all of us this season.

 

I understand your point of view completely and respect it. It just is not mine.

the odds are that getting more than 3 WDCs is not likely. Only Schumi (7) and Fangio (5) are the only drivers with more than three.

Those with 3 WDCs are:
Stewart
Lauda (2 with SF)
Prost

Yes.

 

I have personally won 5 titles in a row in competition and can tell you from personal experience it leads to a LOT of jealousy and hate. Trust me...after the 3rd straight your closest competitors are telling you to quit since you've proved your point and the 4th and 5th year you are the one everyone loves to hate and they cheer when you don't finish...they tend to gang up on you and are doing their best to take you out "just to give someone else a chance...".

p.s. OBVIOUSLY this is not F1 racing, but you get the idea just the same. MS had to overcome a lot of negatives to achieve 5 straight and it comes down to wanting to prove to everyone your ability and leave no doubts in anyone's mind...after the 5th straight I retired from that group. Then last year, one of the top competitors came to me and said that I would probably not be able to compete with the new guys. I wrecked out of the first race and then won 3 races back-to-back and then left again... when I came back last year after several years it was as if the red sea parted. You come back as a legend...

Schumacher made no serious complaints after the race and said that the reduced grip under the current regulations made the cars easier to drive than the ones from the mid-2000s.

"In the last laps the sun was quite low and my helmet was a bit out of place, so I had to keep correcting it so I could see properly," he told the Guardian. "But I had no physical problems. I've been training and preparing a lot. The race wasn't very hard for me. If you look at the lap times, you can see that we are a lot slower than when I was driving before. That's because of the tyres we have now. It's not possible to push as hard as before, so therefore it's easier for the driver."

Doesn't exactly sound like someone who had an exciting weekend racing and had a great time though, does it?.

I read it as: "It was a bit too easy and not much of a challenge. I couldn't push as hard as I would have liked to, due to the risk of damaging the tyres".
