I didn't hate Alonso until I read this thread. But I don't hate him as much as I hate Massa. And I hate Domenicali the most.
I won't call him Alonshole as long as he wins and is a gentleman. He is a winner. May the best Fcar win. Forza Ferrari.
Sick of hearing people talk about sportsmanship in this series especially as it concerns FA. who really knows what goes on behind the public persona with relation to who they are as people. Just look at Tiger Woods as an example. Seems as if some of the most unsportsmanlike conduct has been from Great champions that I adore (A. Senna). And what of Ron Dennis, Bernie and Max? Give FA some time. He's got fire and passion for what he does. I'll take that anyday to KR who seemed to prefer leaving the track early whenever possible.......
I don't recall Alonso's achievements having any bearing on my distaste for him previous to now, so I don't see why one fluke, gifted win should...
It's crazy to 'hate' Alonso. I'm no big Alonso fan, but after MS retired i acknowledged that he was indeed the best out there, and given how bad the Scuderia's performance since 2007, it's great to have him in the team. Anyone who watched the race and think that he's poison to the team must be a mad person. On the podium, post race conference, you can really see how passionate he is about the team and about the sport. You could see in his face how much that win means to him. Unlike Kimi. I say this again, i'm not a big Alonso fan. If he wins or loses, i'm not bothered. I'm rooting for Massa, but i have huge respect for Alonso, and yes, kicking out Kimi and bringing in Alonso is definitely a great move by the Scuderia management.
2 years out in the wilderness without a competitive ride does wonders to one's appreciation for getting back into a race-winning cockpit.
I'm no fair-weather fan, so I'm not going to start liking a driver who I never have just because now he has come to drive for the team whose flag hangs on the wall behind me. It will be nice to see the Scuderia do well again, but I won't be cheering on the Spaniard at any point in his career. Without denying he'll be an asset to the team and his talents will bring them victories this year, I am still disappointed to see Alonso in a Ferrari. For me the driver's to cheer for are Schumi, Vettel, Hamilton, and any other driver who happens to piss off that whiny *****, Jarno Trulli. >8^) ER
I was a Schumacher fan and was very pleased in 1996 when he came to my team. I never liked Kimi, but I think he is the only Ferrari driver I have disliked in the last 10 years. I love having Massa and Alonso in my team this year and I hope one of them becomes champion. I like that the drivers both have names beginning with F! Forza Fernando! Forza Felipe! Farza Ferrari!
Ferrari won. Alonso won. Massa was on the podium. The team loves Fernando and Alonso loves the team The Italians love Fernando and Fernando loves the Italians. The McLaren supporters on Fchat are twisting their knickers into knots. What more do y'all need? - These days life is great for Spaniards, for Tifosi, and for those who call Santander their home town. I am privileged to be all three. P.S.: A short read of the Italian press, for those who read Italian, will give you a very different image of FA (and of LH) than the one peddled on Fchat by the pontificating McLarenish "experts" fed on an exclusive diet of naturally biased English-speaking information.
3) Giving him rope. (Time will tell if he uses it to wrap up a championship or hang himself. ) When things don't go so well, *that's* when we'll see if Alonso has changed more than his driving suit. (Is there a pool for when the "Ferrarigate" scandal will break?) (With Alonso just being a "good citizen" at the FIA hearing.) Massa has been hesitant to bang wheels with a teammate. Alonso might cure him of that. (Now whether that would be good or bad, ...) ... (I think LdM cast his vote on that when he signed Alonso.)
I don't think anybody's hiding, based on the post-race commentaries. People will support the Scuderia regardless, but there is a lot of skepticism as to what happens when things don't work out perfectly for Fernando. I think most of us see him as a self-promoting, cut-throat mercenary who happens to drive for our team. We also see him as one of the top-3 drivers on the grid, regardless of attitude. I think it's safe to say you can dislike somebody but still pull for your team. Hopefully, he's a more mature driver now and doesn't feel as entitled as he once did. Time will tell.
No, I'm not. Mechanical failure is not a gift and it happens to every team on the grid. Vettel didn't pull over, grab the trophy, wrap it in lovely paper, then give it to Alonso while hugging him at the same time did he? Nope. His car broke with PLENTY of time still left in the race for something else to happen. If the roles had been reversed (and it was Alonso leading the race with Vettel following) I have a hard time believing a lot of people would be calling it a gift then.
That's not exactly a disadvantage in F1. I feel the opposite. In "pro" sports like F1, a team is only a business vehicle with the sole goal of making money. If it is not making money for ME, I could care less. However, I can relate to a team and its fortunes through human beings (or their public persona) that I like for whatever reason. I don't care about that either. As long as he offers maximum excitement on track.
