I have been struggling with my 1983 4v Mondial. Basically, after replacing the fuel distributor with a rebuilt unit, replacing the spark plugs, wires, distributor rotors and cap, fuel filter, the car is difficult to start and will not idle properly. It will run for few 20 30 seconds, then if the gas pedal is pressed on and released, the idle will go down to about 500 rpm then the car shuts down, and the metering plate on the fuel distributor shuts close.
    Here are the facts:
The car is running rich on all cylinders since the plugs are black an dgetting fouled. The system fuel pressure is too high at 105 psi when measured between the fuel pump and the inlet to the fuel distributor. The return line was inspected for blockage and is free from any obstruction. The volume of gas from the return line is 700ml/30 seconds. spark is present at both banks and at all plugs.
Same symptoms even with the cold start injector unplugged and the fuel pressure regulator unplugged.
    Any help would be appreciated

Might be bad fuel pressure regulator
Unplugging the vacuum line from it would make it worse as the vacuum is used to reduce the pressure when at idle needing less fuel

Probably unrelated but when the two plugs going to the injection unit are swapped it will do funny stuff or not run. Did you buy car like this or did it develop?

There are books on our injection system. It doesn't hurt to become your own expert.

Sounds like it's choking on fuel, not getting enough air. Interesting. What does exhaust look like for the moments of running? Is it black?

Where are you located? We have people in places all over the world who may be able to drop in and give an opinion, or have a similar car to see if everything is in the right place.

Did someone install an incorrect fuel pump if the pressure is too high? I'm not sure what it's supposed to be off hand.

Thank you for all the feedback. It turned out that i had 2 issues. first the small screen in the fitting at the inlet of the fuel distributor was defective and causing the system fuel pressure to go high. Also the warm up regulator was not working properly and therefore causing the control pressure to be too low and flodding the system. I obtained a new fitting from the rebuilder and a rebuilt warm up regulator. that solved the problem and the car is running great.
    Thank you agian.

Great follow up on the solution. I'm sure all the newer owners are taking note. I think so many people forget to post the actual fix for the problem looking back at the past threads. Good show.
