Started today trying to change the cambelt and the tensioners.

Did not get that far......because of this bolt.

Could not get it off with mild violence and tried both ways.

If I am going to use more force I have to know which way to go.

So left or right....that is the 64 000 dollar question.

A know a lot of you guys know........

    Thanks in advance.....

PS for those of you who live in UK you can see where I serviced my car last time....

    Right-hand

Very tight, possibly has Loctite on the threads. An impact gun will get it loose.

This may help you. But i once had a bsatard of a crank bolt on a 355 i was changing the belts on. I managed to wrestle the crank bolt undone only part of the way. But this was enough to release the cambelts from behind the pulley, and slip the new ones back on over the pulley.
The crank bolt and pulley did not have to come all the way of.

Me neither until I joined this forum. :):)

The only way I heard it before was "Left to Loosen, Right to Tighten".

I believe I got the "Lefty Loosy Righy Tighty" from Ernie. :):)

Yes, that one was a $@#$!. I had to use an impact gun to get it off, I couldn't apply enough torque with the bar I had.

Yep, Impact Gun is used by many of us to remove this bolt.

Same for me - impact gun because swinging on a long bar gets very worrying after a while.
