I've tried using windex, invisible glass, paper towels and cotton cloths. No matter what I use or how many times I buff the glass never seems crystal clear. I suppose it's a function of the oil/gas/heat in that environment but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to get the glass squeaky clean?

The top side is always clean, it's just the underside that isn't perfectly clear. Not necessarily hazy either, just not "perfect."

    Thoughts?

Find yourself a good glass cleaner first. I usually start with a degreaser, such as this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/each-Hammer-Essentials-Cleaner-Degreaser/dp/B001G7HSUG

Sometimes I follow it up with a spray glass cleaner, such as windex or something. Use paper towels to do the bulk of the cleaning.

Then come back with a micro fiber towel. The microfibers will clean the glass better than the paper towels can.

Then polish the glass using either news paper or a blackboard eraser (the fuzzy ones like you used in school as a kid). I use the blackboard eraser trick. It will polish the glass and remove any small streaks that are left behind. I keep a dedicated blackboard eraser that I bought at Office Depot just for cleaning/polishing windows.

The eraser trick will get the windows perfectly crystal clear like you want.

Ah degreaser! Why didn't I think of that Ray.

I'd imagine right now I'm just smearing around an oily film which will never be crystal clear. I'll try and remove that and then go about my windexing/buffing procedure.

    Thank ya sir.

Have fun :) You can also make your own window cleaner. Google ammonia and newspaper to clean glass. The microfiber rag and the blackboard eraser trick are really what will get it to that perfectly crystal clear look that you want.

I didn't have time to run out for the eraser routine but I cleaned with "Fantasik" first (which is a degreaser), then invisible glass, and finally buffed with a cloth. Looking good!

Bottom line is, degreasing is the key folks.

I agree with RayJohns. Newspaper works the best for cleaning glass.
