I thought I might start a thread in honor of my favorite non-Vodka vice.

About a year ago I was introduced to Tanqueray TEN. After many years of being a Bombay Sapphire guy, I can't imagine having anything else in my stock at home.

(The TEN is for G&T. For martini's, I avoid gin-based.... and stick with vodka)

    Anyone else?

Plymouth from England and Deaths Door from Door County Wi. are the two favorites here that trump all the usual suspects by a wide mar-GIN... MHO of course... YRMV...

    enjoy

Ten is excellent and has become my regular gin. Have been drinking it for years now.

Also try cucumber-based Hendrick's. A little rougher, but a nice flavor. Garnish with a slice of fresh cucumber.

Hendricks is a wonderful, wonderful gin. Absolute favorite of mine, but it can be hard to find depending on the local distributor.

If you haven't tried it, do it on your next purchase

A fellow fchatter sent me some Hendricks -- and it was fantastic !!! But I can't find it locally at my ABC store (alcohol here in North Carolina is controlled through state-run stores).

If I could find it locally, it would have replaced the TEN for me, but mail-ordering a bottle every few weeks or one a month seems pretty pricey.

I can buy Hendrick's at the CostCo liquor store!

ABC is SUCH a rip-off. Though, they may be able to order it for you.

Don't forget VA. Although, it's possible to buy wine and beer elsewhere, hard liquor is ABC only. That's why everyone who can drives to DC. Free-market economics drive those prices down. And, the selection is far superior. Freedom of choice!

Hendricks is a nice cucumber gin, I think it definitely does well with a little vodka.

For a great cucumber cocktail use a nice dry gin, tanqueray works well; the measurements are:
    5 oz gin
    3/4 oz simple syrup
    3/4 oz lime juice
    5 slices muddled cucumber
    Dash of salt

Serve it on the rocks if you like or you can strain the ice and readd the slices of muddled cucumber. For some added complexity you can add basil which also goes well with gin and cucumber :).

Anyone know anything about Magellan? I used to work in a bar and we had a bottle of that on the shelf, I'm pretty sure I only ever served one glass of it because it was the priciest. All I know is the bottle was absolutely beautiful, and the gin itself was crystal blue

Sorry, sir, but you can thank your elected representatives for that.

Have it shipped to an adjacent state and you could pick it up if it's not too far (although I'm not condoning a crime). Or, if you have family in another state, perhaps have it shipped to them. That once-a-year visit thing may not be so far off.

I order wine from different states, and they can only ship to certain other states; it is really weird. So someitmes I have to send it to NC, sometimes to TX, Sometimes NY. Why?

Used to be a Saphire lover. I ´ve now discovered London Gin and G Vine, both tremendous!!

And the best tonic is Fever Tree.

To me Cadenheads Old Raj is the best gin especially for mixed cocktails.... especially for Martinis

OK. Mrs. JRR is angry. I just finished a bottle of '10'. She had marked the cap with a Sharpie pen "5 July 2010". Ooops.
