Has anyone here ridden in a fighter jet as a passenger?

I'm interested in knowing where I would go to get a ride in military jet. I don't know anything about planes, so I don't really care what type it is as long as It goes fast.

Ideally, I'd like to go to the edge of space, but I don't know if that is even an option.

What I'm really trying to accomplish here is
1.) See the earth from a beyond stunning view, and I figured a jet must be necessary to do this. No, I don't want to take hot air balloon.
    2.) Go, REALLY fast.

Does anyone here have experience with companies that provide such services?

There was talk of it here in another thread. It was done as I recall in Florida. Do a search.

    Veeeery spendy.

I was told the Ruskie AF does it too. They love to scare people. Probably a wild ride. An ex Navy pilot friend was thinking of treating himself to a 60th birthday ride in a Foxbat.

+1 to Rifledriver.... I can't even begin to guess how much that trip would
run.... but surely pretty high up in the 5 figures would be the best I could imagine.

    But FUN???? Oh yeah baby!!

I looked into the Russian AF Rides about 5 years ago, and as I recall it was somehwhere in the neighborhood of $25k for about a 30 minute hop. That of course does not include how much it costs to get there, go through the training etc. My guess is for somewhere in the $50k range you can get a decent ride in a Foxbat.

I still am going to do it in the next 10 years or so. I have been up in many military aircraft, but not yet a fighter. It has to be done.

Thanks for all the responses from everyone!!

I agree, it's just one of those things that you just HAVE to do, money is the only issue for most people. I can't even begin to imagine the feeling that sight would bring.

Maybe one day I'll be able to afford this sort of thing.

    It's just too cool.

I've looked into it and it is definitely too expensive for me right now, and for the next 10 or so years. I will however be going up in a fighter jet regardless of the cost before I die! It looks incredible.

I shot this guy an e-mail and he told me:
    "Tyler 30min $3900 45min $5900 or 1hr $6900 it is truly a once in a lifetime experience!"

Copied and pasted. I find the lack of details, structure, and punctuation disturbing. This is certainly not the type of company that I would want strapping me to a missile.

I know next to nothing on the subject but I am pretty sure you have to be in pretty good shape to qualify. Time will hurt the chances I'm sure.

Absolutely, though I know as of this moment and the foreseeable future I'm in good enough shape. I've been a gymnast for a hair over 20 years and work out on a daily basis :). When I can afford it though? Probably be 10 or so years from now.

Tyler- You will have fun, but there is not much feeling of speed in a supersonic flight at high altitude except the machmeter moving. Much more exciting is mach 0.9 or so at 100'-200'. That will cause you to suck the seat cushion up between your cheeks. Or 6-9 "g"s at medium altitude. Say "good night".

But never mind. What do I know?

How high does a MiG 25 go, anyway? Much more than 51,000 feet on one of those rides?

Service ceiling on the mach 2.8 Mig-25 was around 65,000', and zooms exceeding 80,000' are possible. A test version holds the world's altitude record (123,523 feet) set by Alexandr Fedotov, in a Mikoyan Gurevitch E-266M (MiG-25M), on 31 August 1977.

I personally would not go above 50K' without a pressure suit, especially in an old aircraft like a Mig-25.

I went for an incentive ride in the backseat of an F-16D when I was in Singapore, for the Singapore Sling exercise back when I worked on F-16's. It was a blast, but we had a lot of restrictions, so we weren't able to do what I was wanting. What I wanted was some crazy 100ft flight over the pacific and supersonic, but we couldn't go lower than 5000ft so that nixed that. We pulled 9G's twice, and went supersonic, but it feels like you're moving no faster than doing 25mph in a car. We also did some other cool stuff, and I was able to fly it as well. I have it on video, but I can't find the adapter tapes for the old sony mini vhs tapes, so I haven't been able to watch it.

I know Russia was selling incentive flights when they were hurting for cash. I think it was 10 grand to fly in a mig. I'm sure a Russian incentive flight would probably be a blast, probably less restricted.
As far as physical shape to fly in a fighter jet, I think they check blood pressure, see if you have any physical ailments, sinus/ears, and make sure that you can pop your ears, and that's about it.

If anyone buys the Mig that's for sale in the U.S. maybe you can contact them to give you a flight.

You got to go and get the ride of your life. My years in the military I got to fly in F-4 C/D model, F-16 A/B Model and a B-52 on a bombing run and also my the last time in a KC-135 tanker over Iraq. The best flight was the F-4 during a bombing run in Avon park. I will never forget that feeling.

I flew in the back seat, of an A-7K, with the Arizona Air Guard.

It was a lot of fun.
