While I won't be getting up for practice nor qualifying I may stay up for the race.
They won't miss me in church:)

And yet, a decade later, we still had racing like this...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3tXJm9tYGM

I'm all for giving it a few races, and I'm not a fair weather fan, I'm here for the long haul. I watch F1 for the spectrum of interest it generates, both on the track and off. Fact remains that if Bahrain does turn out to be the harbinger of what F1 now offers on the track, the FIA, FOTA and FOM will have to do something to bring some excitement back to the racing, or they will lose fans, and shortly after, sponsors. I'd rather see it be something that occurs before the race (lottery qualifying), than something that happens during it (track short cuts, split races/reversed grid).

Well yes I'am sure you do..;)

I agree with you Ian, I have said it before lets give it a couple more races before sounding off the death of F1 as we know it (again).

3 things IMO, the tyres are to damn good, the track was crap and expectations were to high for the first race.

I can't remember where I read it, but IIRC this was discussed a while back (by the OWG?) - Their conclusion was it wouldn't work...... There will always be a single "best" line around a corner, and these guys will use it......

Lotteries! Reverse grids! WTF? You guys can't be serious? [Can you?...]

    Cheers,
    Ian

As serious as grooved tires, tiny rear wings and KERS...

Have the top gear guys come up with one of they're whacky ideas. Something different every race...maybee fire? Stop and down a shot every 5 laps? Seriously its F1!!!

I like the idea in James Allen's column of using 2 extremes of tyre. One super-soft, which is grippy, but doesn't last long and one super-hard that lacks grip, is hard to heat up, but lasts a long time.
I certainly would be against the reintroduction of refuelling as I want the action to be on the track, not in the pits.
The idea of winning cars having to carry ballast during qualifying, but not the race sounds ok.

Overall I agree with Rindt though - let's dramatically reduce the aero-grip so the cars can slip-stream each other. Ban front wings and diffusers as they don't carry much advertising and make the rear wing give a tiny bit of downforce.

Like many of you I'll continue watching even if every race is like Bahrain just because I'm a hard-core addict! Bernie and co don't care about me or my opinions, but they do worry about the opinions of the people I talk to at work who say "Yeah, I watched a bit of the race, but it looked boring so I watched the football instead." - These are the people Bernie needs to entertain.

I wonder if they would even find a tire manufacturer willing to produce those. It would probably make for good racing, but as a marketing tool be neutral to negative.

I had the same thought, perhaps a little more extreme...

I rather have tyres lasting just 10-12 laps maybe. More pitstops, more pressure, more chances to screw up, more drama.

Implementing an idea like James Allen's would just bring back 2005 season, IMO.

I respectfully disagree. Grooved tires were an attempt at reducing grip and thence increasing braking distances to improve the show - OK, it seems it didn't work too well, but at least they *tried*.

Pretty much the same with smaller rear wings (and larger fronts) - IIRC, these came from the OWG as another "attempt".

While KERS was a huge financial disaster, it too was an attempt to spice up the show and add a little "greenie" aspect - I actually believe if they'd have given it a bit more time it could have worked (albeit very expensively).

But, messing with the grid, Bernies "shortcuts", random sprinklers etc etc is going *way* too far IMHO - It's already a big circus, but not yet a joke.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Gimmicks don't make for better racing. At this point they don't even seem to make for a better show. Maybe this will convince the powers that be (Bernie) to strip away all the artifice and return to basics.
    I can dream, can't I?
