Are you not drinking, or drinking for 30 days? I got confused. I did't buy any beer last week. A few days later I found some old Coors light cans in the liquor cabinet. It's for company only - yes some people prefer that stuff. So I threw them in the freezer until the mountains turned blue and drank them. Amazing how cold and refreshing it was after abstaining from beer. Normally I wouldn't drink Coors Light. Damn it was good. Reminded me of Eddie Murphy's eating a cracker bit!
LOL, yea I read that and my fingers got ahead of my brain. I'm not drinking for Lent. Figured it was the thing I do the most and should give it a try. That and a friend of mine who was border-lined alcoholic quit drinking before his daughter was born for 7 months. I have never drinken as much as he has or did, but it was encouragement to show that I don't need it. I noticed your hangover status on facebook, lol.
Someone post something up. I'm in need to new ideas for when I drink again. I'm going to start stocking up.

Chimay I've tried several of the Chimays. The blue label is my favorite, but they are all worthy beers in a very old tradition. Very rich with a solid bite and a long delicious finish. Major league kick if you aren't prepared for the higher than average alcohol content. Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Hefe is not my favorite style... but this one is old world exceptional enough to rate a 4 out of 5 in my book. Perfectly balanced grain and hop, bottle finished to enhance the flavor, and a light citrus tone in the background. Do NOT spoil this beer by drinking it out of the bottle. Pour half of it into the glass, swirl the bottom to pick up the fines, and then finish the pour. It makes all the difference on a seriously good bottle finished brew like this one. Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown There is only one thing I don't like about this beer. It is only available in November and December... It is much to my surprise one of the best Nut Brown Ale's I've ever tried that rivals Samuel Smith's and absolutely outclasses Newcastle's. Nicely roasted malts and a perfect hop finish combine to produce a clean, crisp, smooth drink that will now become one of my Holiday must buy's. I would give it a 5, but I haven't tasted any Nut Brown that is quite worthy of that appellation...yet. McEwans Scottish Ale IF you like a sweet, strong, heavy brew, this stuff is pretty good. Not for sissies. Sam Adams Double Bock I love a good dopplebock, and this one does not disappoint. This is a very rich beer. Thickly textured, wonderfully roasted malts, and a wonderfully smooth finish with just enough hop bite to make it linger well and long. Samuel Adams Oktoberfest A very tasty brew. Everything I've come to expect of Sam Adams with a nice body, good aroma, and a distinctly medium-heavy body malt flavor to savor. Just a wee hop bite to it with a pleasant finish. Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout Just DAMN! This is one fine Oatmeal Stout. Deep black, rich and creamy texture, and a perfectly balanced bittersweet flavor. Just the right amount of hop to give it a great nose and finish. A definite 5, and getting a 5 out of me doesn't come easy... Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout This is a fine Stout. Rich flavor, thick malty texture, none of the harshness many associate with Stouts. A very satisfying beer that stands well alone or with a good beef dinner. It is wonderfully dark, slightly sweet, just the right hoppy balance, and a nice creamy texture. Long, hop and malt rich finish. Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale It is the BEST Nut Brown I've ever tried, period. Medium full bodied, pours to a nice aromatic head with hops and nutty grain coming through cleanly in the nose and on the tongue. Dry finish that lasts well and fades slowly on the tongue. One of the few "Nut Brown"s that I'll drink on purpose. Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Pale Ale A very nice English Ale that is a bit milder than some of its darker cousins. The hops are mellowed by the yeast and barley malt to give it an almost oily texture on the pallet. Soft and coppery colored, it is in many ways similar to their Nut Brown, but with more of a malt flavor instead of spice. It has a bit of a caramel/toffee flavor that lingers on your tongue for a long and satisfying finish. There is just the right amount of hop bite at the end to give it a nice crispness on the tip of your tongue. Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale Samuel Smith's avoided the temptation to "fruit and spice" their Winter Ale that so many brewers fall prey to. This is a crisp and clean ale with a nice flowery hop finish that is mellowed by the malt. Those who might not handle the "kick" of a more traditional English Ale could easily enjoy this brew, but an Old World beer lover can enjoy it with them just the same. Almost no hop bite at all, but the crispness of the hops still come through. They must've found a way to keep the "flower" and bury the "bite". Maybe they imported a wee bit of Scottish Heather to soften the hop... Shiner Black Lager This has become one of my "go to" brews since Shiner introduced it. It is a rich dark beer with a comfortable level of hops and a flavor that is surprisingly "bright" for such a dark brew. Similar in texture to Lienies Creamy dark, but a touch more hop flavor and finish. I'd put the flavor about 1/2 way between Becks Dark and Lienies Creamy Dark Lager. Czechs in Texas brewing old world beer. Who'da ever thunk it... Shiner Hefeweisen One of the few American brewed Hefe's that is bottle finished, and that makes a big difference in its flavor if you pay attention. Pour it 1/2 off, swirl the bottle to pick up the yeast from the bottom, and THEN finish the pour. It is unfiltered, just a touch of Orange and Lemon zest, with honey and yeast added just before it hits the bottle to give it that extra "flavor bump". Smithwicks Ale I got some last year to celebrate the holidays with and enjoyed every sip. It is a well rounded, rich, malty, hoppy brew that is very good alone or with well roasted meat. Not for the faint of heart mind you, but a real ale lover will appreciate it. Geeze. I just went back and reviewed my reviews... If I didn't know better I'd think I drank too much. But I don't, so

Bell's Oberon was released again this week. Since it's local, there is a cult following and many bars had it on hand to sell at midnight Sunday. I'm sure it will start showing up in stores around the country the next few weeks (if it hasn't already).
Ok. You guys freaked me out with all your coffee and weird oatmeal beers. So I tried this and IT WAS AWESOME. Only a hint of cocoa, not sweet at all. Very nice. A pleasant surprise for sure. Thank you for the idea to try these different brews. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well my 40 days of sobriety can officially end on Sunday. Bought a bottle of Hop Stoopid and a 6er of Left Hand Brewings Good Juju; a IPA with ginger.
Went shopping for some Easter Dinner brews yesterday and found a few. Tried the Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout first... Very tasty stuff, black as coal, oily thick texture, and silky smoooooooth. I'll be doing this one again for sure. Anderson Valley Brewing Co. up in Mendocino County Ca. http://www.avbc.com/beers/barney-flats-oatmeal-stout/ I picked up a few others that I'll be trying on for size this afternoon... Oak Barrel aged... I've got a feeling it's going to be a very good day
