    Gents,
See these posts; they may apply to Paul's Aug of '71 (according to the Dino Register) car.

Parts manual (concerning motor mounts) is incorrect, and well documented on F-Chat.

Jim, does that mean that Jon Corbani's pix at post http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91733
Post #1 (good close-up pics, in situ)
is the approved way? That is most logical since the front mounts can have the heat shields properly placed and the rears are per the Parts Catalog applicable to Paul's S/N 02424 and my #08118 . . . not that logic has any thing to do with this! :)

Paul, I can't tell from your pix because the bottom half is not fully visible and it's not dimensioned. Mine are exactly like the originals. I did use shims under my replacement mounts to ensure the shift rod had adequate clearance from the cross member. I don't recall if those shims were there when I bought the car in 1977.

Note the orientation of the rear mounts. The front are opposite, that is, the steel mount is up-side-down, and the shock mount stays in the same orientation as the rear. In one picture you can see the forward mount.

The shift rod will not clear the cross member if the mounts are installed as in the parts manual. The forward mounts are opposite that of the parts manual. I will search for more pictures.

Guys: It is so much simpler when the motor is in front of the car as god (and Enzo for a long, long time) decreed it! Seriously, however the Scagletti bodied car's layout is so very elegant, a real masterpiece M

Jim, thanks for the excellent pix and what a lovely engine and frame, truely pristine! I've not seen this style motor mount. Is this the "Superformance" product. Any pros or cons vs. the OEM style? I agree with you on the front vs. rear mount orientation. Even with the fronts positioned as you describe (opposite the rears), I put a 1/8" shim under the front mounts just to be sure that if the rubber "settles" with age, I'll have clearance for the shift rod. IMO, it was too close for comfort without the shim. I'd like all four bolts to be about 1/4" longer.

The mounts were obtained through GT Car Parts in Phoenix. I assume that all of the suppliers get them from the same after market manufacturer. I requested original parts, but I surmise that originals are no longer available. These pictures are from one of my engines before refreshing. I had taken off the mounts to paint the bracket, and took pictures before studying the pattern left by the split washer. Note that the first picture, revealing the forward mount, is taken with the engine turned upside down on the stand. I believe, from recollection, that the shock mount in this picture is incorrectly positioned. It should be mounted from above the bracket when the engine is upright. This picture reveals it coming from below.

I have made this far more confusing than it need be. Jon G., Tom C., others, help me out here !!! I can take some pictures tomorrow of the installed, CORRECT, orientation.

With the "Fiat" bolts its more likely to be an original, any chance your carbs still have the "Ferrari" aluminum tags on them? M

Yes, I have the Ferrari tags on the carbs.

The Fiat bolts are original, but I had dismantled the mounts and then quickly bolted them back together so as not to lose parts. When I went to final assembly I studied the scars on the brackets (created by the split washer) and was able to reconstruct the proper assembly. I will have to take a picture of this final assembly to help you through this.

Jim- that all looks correct to me. I recently had Jacques at Maserati source make up some motor mounts and he did a very nice job. I think he advertises them on his website.

Jim Next time you have it judged point out that you have the tags, darn few cars have them, the judges will take note of it. M

I am happy to confirm mine has those, all three of them, never touched! Thank you for bringing to , at least, my attention. I also found an engine mount so I thought i'd post the pic.

I found out after rebuilding my engine and then reinstalling it that the motor mounts were shown incorrectly in the parts book and we had to flip them because of clearance issues. I'll try to take photos of mine and post them here in the next few days.
