Would you lift your 328 with such a thing? http://www.distrilift.com Are the rocker panel strong enough? Already found this thread http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199069Mimi gian franco
Nope. The rockers have very little structural rigidity. You'll simply crush them and then your car will look like crap from the side and down low. There are proper lift points where there's a structural member of the frame - you'll see where they are by looking for a (usually crushed) jack receiver location point, just behind the front wheel and just ahead of the rear wheel. If you lift anywhere else you'll hear the sound of deforming metal....
That thing has to be much more sturdy than it looks. You can get a proper two post lift for under 2 grand.
Forget what it may do to the car --- what will it do to YOU !! That thing looks sketchy as hell !!! I wouldn't go anywhere near a car that was propped up on one of those things...
I've often wished I had a similar lift that could be moved out of the way when not in use. Just today, I saw one on Ebay in a Ferrari ad below. Look at the bottom photos. Anybody know anything about this type of sissors lift? They look like they are air powered. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310209346067&ih=021&category=157040&_trksid=p4506.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26ps%3D6%26clkid%3D8866299928403186694
That looks like just a regular scissor lift a lot of folks here use. There are half a dozen manufacturers/retailers...Bend Pak, Snap On, Greg Smith Equipment, etc. They are hydraulically operated, and weight about 1,000 pounds. Quite stable, and convenient. Notice the two pistons in the photo, the motor is mounted away from the unit on a stand that also enables you to roll the lift around (assuming you have the upper body strength to do so). Phil
My rockers were all bent up when i got my car, there's really nothing supporting them. I mostly bent them back just using my hands. They're about as solid as trying to jack up your car using the door or front fender. Image Unavailable, Please Login
